Great place to stay in Sacramento! We're full-time Digital Nomads and Snowbirds in a big rig towing a car, and we make a point of staying here for a couple of weeks every summer, as we migrate from Arizona to Oregon. CalExpo RV Park has everything we need: central location in the heart of Sacramento, close to friends, stores, and restaurants, it has stable and reliable power, level pull-through gravel RV sites, a dog run, and we feel secure here. Not a lot of luxuries for the price, but it's well-kept and has all the basics (power-water-sewer), and the price is reasonable. Down by the river, it's surprisingly quiet at night. Plenty of open sky for Starlink.

We have stayed here several times to visit family (stays from 5 days to 1 month), and it is definitely the most convenient, safest, and most reasonable RV park in the area!
The grounds are well maintained, the showers and laundry areas are clean, and there are frequent drive-throughs by the Cal Expo police and security personnel.
The location is close to the freeway, a major shopping mall, a movie theater, many restaurants, and a Costco is roughly 2 miles away for gas and supplies. There is easy access to the American River Parkway Bike Trail for biking or walking the dogs.
The park is associated with the California State Fair and horse racing facility, so it does fill up during special events and the fair.
There is some noise from the racetrack if it's harness racing season, but it all quiets down by 10 pm or so.
The lower lot is gravel and tends to be more level than the upper paved lot. As others have said, it's nothing fancy, but it more than serves its purpose for an overnight or a short stay.

If you have a 35 foot or less motorhome, class C, camper van or truck camper, make sure you ask to see if there is availability in sites 401-413. These sites are cement, flat and surrounded by tress! Most other sites are not level and some even extreme! Site 408 was level, FHU, had 3 bars AT&T cellular, and about 10 usable OTA channels. They had WiFi but it was worthless. We felt very safe and saw the fairgrounds security very often patrolling the campground. This was a great basecamp to go to the State Capitol, to Placerville, Apple Hill, and more!

We stayed here on our way from Washington to Southern California. Sacramento didn’t seem to have many decent options but glad we chose this! It was a little hard to find but we kept following the signs around the perimeter of the fairgrounds. We drove through and checked it out first; seemed safe so we stayed! The office staff were friendly and helpful. They put us in 407 which is a back in on concrete with full h/u and very level. If you have a motorhome up to 35’ and can back in, try for 402-414 as this is a quiet area off by itself with trees in front and behind you. We were there in off season, no events happening so they were leaving space between sites. This might feel a little tight if they were all booked! The rest of the 400s and 500s are on gravel, mostly pull through. 100-300s are pavement, pull thrus and back ins, not that level. They have a good sized off leash dog park which was appreciated! It is a no frills place without much scenery but they have the basics and it felt safe. Will definitely stay again while traveling through!

Three months ago my wife and I had booked July 9-12, 2022 at Cal Expo RV while visiting our grandchildren in nearby Roseville. I received a voice mail on Friday, May 6th asking me to call their office. I called only to be informed that they were cancelling my reservation because a large group was coming in for the California State Fair and they needed my site. No apology, no "were sorry", no "how can we make it up to you", just zip. Talk about low class. Apparently I am not the only one, while speaking with another RV park staff member he mentioned he had already had several people call seeking space for the same reason.
Here's a tip, stay elsewhere because Cal Exp does not honor reservations people make months in advance. .

They have a laundry room but close at 4pm so make sure to make the deadline because they lock it before they head home for the day! ha.
There is a night guard that patrols. There is direct access to the bike path which goes for miles and miles and connects to other trails which made our stay really great.
FHU and pretty level. Easy pull thru site. Would stay again, but for a shorter time.

We stayed here for one night while making our way down California. We called ahead the morning of our arrival to see if we could make a reservation. They took our name and told us they had sites available, and that when arrived we should pick a spot based on the length of our rig and pay in the morning, so that’s what we did. When I went to pay, they asked for additional information like the make, model, and license numbers of both our truck and RV so that they could put us in their computer system (in case we ever stayed there again). Although it didn’t come up in my conversation with them, I noticed a note on their whiteboard that any RVs older than 10 years were subject to approval: whether that was a new rule or a temporary rule was unclear.
It’s a fairly typical RV park for a property that serves as a state fairground. The section near the office has shorter, paved spots, while the section we stayed in was all gravel (streets and sites). Most of the sites are fully exposed to the sun, and there are street lights on tall poles at intervals typical of a regular parking lot. According to the campground map, there is a laundry facility and showers (presumably bathrooms?) attached to the office building. Both sections of campground have access to the fenced-in dog park. We were also able to walk our dogs along the border of the campground along a line of tall evergreen trees.
Given our one-night stay, I only did two speed tests with my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna and the best reading I got was about 20bps down and 20Mbps up, and other than the occasional buffering we had no trouble steaming video that evening. The one speed test I did with my AT&T phone showed 38Mbps down and 14 up.
We would stay here again for an overnight stay.

Excellent accountability with front office, who checked with us about arrival twice and someone was even there for our late arrival to make sure we got parked OK. Sights are just asphalt of course with hook ups, but the dog park is grassy and nice and security seems good. We were there M Tu W and never crowded. You have to give a cash deposit for a key to the shower, FYI. Husb reports they were "clean enough"--older but well kept. No complaints and great urban cell and OATV.
