Purchased our cheap $10 beach pass for our class C RV and toad (jeep) at the Big Store…Purchase water for $10 at a local RV resort (filled up our water tank)… we head to the beach, west end towards the bird sanctuary…. all pumped up/excited for a great 3 day beach RV boondocking experience…then the real experience hit us in the face. Yes the beach is hard packed and easily driven on for RVs all sizes but the trash and vagrants living on the beach is ridiculous… so disappointing and exited the beach. Maybe on a major holiday weekends and peak RVing season people overlook the real experience for friends and family. Very trashy, ugly beach and a terrible experience.

Negatives are the constant drone of the ships, the weather usually isn't as good as predicted, and especially once you walk into the nature preserve section of the beach (past the pylons) there's an incredible amount of trash, which is very sad.
Overall a good base camp especially if you want to take the ferry over to Galveston, or are into fishing.
If you need anything, The Big Store (and Post Office) is just a few miles north and has everything.

It's next to a bird sanctuary so there is a variety of birds to watch. I like the location but wish you could get a bit farther away from the ocean to avoid the tides. If you go, have some boards to put under your tires so you don't sink into the sand during your stay.

This was our second stay here a couple years after our first and it’s still amazing.
Pros:
- you wake up to the beach!
- it’s $10 to park on the permit side or free on the other side
- the permit side is a little less busy
- hard packed sand, our 43 ft 5th wheel had no issues
- we felt safe here
- quiet (except for the wind)
- porta potties at the entrance
- dog friendly
- the far end to the right when you enter is a bird sanctuary
- make sure you ride the free ferry and look for dolphins!
Cons:
- sand will be everywhere!
- garbage says no residential trash not sure if that applied to camping or not.
- there is garbage on the beach but that’s primarily getting washed up on shore and has more to do with pollution in the water than the people on the beach.

Nice beach. I must have picked the time with the worst weather. First day was beautiful. For the next full week it was cold, cloudy, rainy and windy. Will definitely go back when the weather is nicer

There is nothing better than parking your rig right on the beach. We stayed here for the Thanksgiving week, and there were only 6 other campers on over a mile of beach. We talked with a local Sheriff Deputy, and he said that spring break through September, the beach is packed. This is true boondocking. There are no hook-ups and no sites. Just find a spot to set up. There are garbage cans every 100 yards. At high tide the water came within 10 yards of our trailer. Check the tides, because a king tide could possible get all the way up to the grass line. The surf was the only noise we heard. You will get sand everywhere. It is the beach. The only negative is the trash. We cleaned up all of the garbage within 200 yards of our site, but the next day the tide brought more back. I will be coming back again.

Plenty of space
No worries on the sand

The temp was mild ( for us NewYorkers) although one night very windy, we brought the slider in because we were afraid the wind would tear up the awning above the slide. Lots of sand but it is the beach! Try this beach you will not regret it!
