This was a way stop for me. It was the start of trout season and this is the #1 spot for trout fishing. It was like Disney world for trout fishermen. And, they were pulling them in by buckets. There are several campgrounds, I wound up down near the river with full hookups. No shade, no trees. But a great spot if you wanted to fish. This was just an overnight stay for me. But I did love the trails. Just too busy for me, but if you want to fish...go!
Wide variety of sites available. Playground, tours of hatchery. It was a long drive in from Lebanon, I went out the back road and picked up my highway quickly.
I don't think I go without reservations on a weekend. I lucked out as I was a one nighter. I'd also study the site map carefully when choosing a spot.
The road in leads directly to the Lake Of the Ozarks, so many stores, etc on the way in. But, stock up on supplies, you don't want to face that traffic again. Once you get into the park, it's lovely.

This was a beautiful campground with lots to do even if you just wanted to relax. They were hosting events for Halloween during our stay. Park store is well stocked and reasonably priced. Hatchery was neat to see (sad we missed the formal tour). Of course the trout fishing is very popular; the water is crystal clear. Good hiking trails. The campground had different areas—we stayed in a wooded loop and enjoyed it very much. The showerhouses are newer but are starting to show wear (likely from the number of campers due to the popularity of this park); they were clean though.

Since we were planning on tenting, we looked at the weather and a sever thunderstorm was supposed to hit that night so we slept in our car. The campground had wifi which was nice, and we chose a base campsite (no water or electric) as we knew we would be sleeping in the car. It was an overall good experience, and the people were very nice.

Trout Season starts in Missouri on March 1, and most of the spaces in Bennett Spring State Park are filled with excited anglers. After the opening rush subsides a bit, the real camping season gets going in earnest on April 15, when all the campgrounds open - the water is turned off to a couple of the sites until the real danger of a hard freeze is past.
Bennett Spring has five campgrounds - Campground 1 is on the lower level, near the Spring Branch and the Niangua River, and are level, paved, full hook-up sites. It is open year-round. Campgrounds 2 & 3 are up the hill behind Campground 1 and are either electric 30A sites or primitive. Some, in campground 2 are adjacent "family sites".
Campgrounds 4 & 5 are farther up the hill yet. The sites in 4 are all 30A electric, while campground 5 is a combination of 30A electric and primitive.
The park boasts a half-dozen hiking trails ranging from short, stream-side walks to a 5-hour trek down the Natural Tunnel Trail. Stop by the Nature Center for trail maps and further information. There are excellent displays explaining how the Ozark spring system was formed, as well as teh history of the area and the Depression-era CCC origins of many of the structures in the park.
There is a park store for basics, snacks, souvenirs and information for fishermen. Cabins are also available at Bennett Spring. Information available on the website or at the store.
