We stayed Friday and Saturday night and when we got there early afternoon on Friday we had the place to ourselves until about 10pm Friday night. Only a few campers showed up late Friday, but by noon on Saturday it was pretty packed. There's a pavilion that people rented out both Saturday and Sunday and tons of people were there to float in the Illinois Bayou.
We took the campsite that included a pavilion and was next to the defunct water pump and the outhouse by the main parking area. We were using a truck tent so we were confined to this level. The upper area is walk in only but there are some really cute spots there as well as more outhouses if you are camping in a regular tent.
There weren't as many local trails to hike as I'd of liked, but if you are able to bushwack a little you can still find lots of beautiful spots along the water and if you're up for a real trek there is a Bayou Bluff Trail but it's almost nonexistent at this point and includes several water crossings, so if you're not up for that (we weren't at the time since it was hot and we had the dogs with us).
There was no AT&T signal whatsoever out here, it was bliss. LOL :-) But you should download maps of the area and any trails you want to attempt before you leave home just in case you lose all signal like we did.

This is a little hidden gem! There are 4 stone structures that used to be cabins that have had the walls removed to make them open air, with a fireplace! We didn’t need to pitch a tent! There were also about 3 walk-in spots that were very well maintained overlooking the bluff. This site is overall well maintained and kept up. There is a loop in the back and also at least one hiking trail. We did fish in the creek, however upon wading into the water saw several snakes so would advise to swim at the swimming hole around the corner but still doable!! Great well kept area for kids! There is one pavilion with an outlet (we took a coffee pot) but a storm had taken it out and they were repairing while we were there. The views, atmosphere, area, amazing! Can’t wait to visit again!! Highly recommend!! Around an hour drive from central AR.

Nice campground on the Illinois Bayou River in the Ozark National Forest. There about 7 sites here. $10 for a normal site and $15 for sites with a rock shelter featuring a fireplace. Good swimming hole in the summer. Pavilion on site, reservation only.
