No permit needed. I highly recommend stopping at the Museum of Western Film in Lone Pine which is excellent. They have some maps and lots of information about camping in the hills which are only about 2 miles out of town.

In short, no. I would review the reviews to attain as much information as you can about this place, including what to expect when you're there.

Answered on 10/2/2021:

Because of unthinking and despicable visitors leaving trash and human waste, BLM is tightening control of camping in this very popular area. Sad. You should check with the BLM office in Bishop to make sure you're permitted if need be and are appraised of the rules and customs for dry camping in the Alabama Hills. Please. please don't be one of those who ruin it for everyone else. Please? Pack it in-Pack it out!

No permit needed. However, if you are driving the 37’ rig in your picture, I might not recommend it because the ground is quite bumpy.

As of March 2020, I did not have a permit, nor did I see anyone else with a permit. I was there for about 10 days and did see rangers each day. Sorry that I don't have more current information.

Not when we were there in 2019. It's dispersed camping - no restrictions I know of.

No permit needed. Last time I was there you just pull up to a spot and set up camp.
