“I had pleasant experiences both times I was here. ”

I first visited Abol Bridge in late September 2018. I had a site on the water which had plenty of room for my 19 ft. trailer and pickup truck. The West Branch of the Penobscot River was serene. It was the end of the season for through-hikers on the Appalachian Trail. The summit of Mt. Katahdin is 12 miles away. I returned in late June 2023. A very different story. Snowmelt and heavy spring rains flooded the river. The campsites along the water were unusable. The manager found me one remaining site that was high and dry. He even helped me back into it. The Appalachian Trail beyond here was flooded for 3 miles. A number of disappointed hikers. In the morning a self-serve breakfast was provided for the registered guests. I did check out the showers and would have chosen to use the one I have in the trailer. There is a small general store and gift shop, and restaurant and bar open in the evenings. Propane and firewood are available. There is also a dump station right next to the bath house. About half the distance from Millinocket is on a gravel road, Golden Road. It was in my opinion in pretty good shape. Especially compared to the Greenville Road connecting Gloden Road with Greenville. I paid $27 for one night. It was $26 in 2018.
jws048 would stay here again

Diane made a reservation here for one night. She was starting the Appalachian Trail near here. We arrived about 8pm after a 1200 mile drive.
It’s a 10 mile washboard, rutted and potholed road to get to the site.
The site had no electric, water, or sewer, even though the lady on the phone said there was electric.
The sites were pretty cramped for the price and no hookups.
Shower house was pretty rickety. I guess they don't understand just because it’s old doesn’t mean you don’t need to broom all the spider webs out of the shower house at least a few times a week.
They did have a dump station that looked to be really awkward to get to, same as the one potable water faucet.
Our site did back up to a nice little lake.

“Didn’t stay - they wanted to charge $10/nite per pet!”

I spoke to the reservation agent in the afternoon and she quoted me $412.02 for a two week stay. Once I received the email about the reservation I noticed they charged me over $717! When I called to ask about the discrepancy I was told by this same person that they charge $10/nite per pet! I have never even paid that much at a hotel - never mind that they are not cleaning after me - it’s my own camper!
Needless to say I cancelled immediately and can’t recommend anyone go to this campground!
