Great and easy stop. Had no issues with our 24’ plus tow vehicle. Wild burros wandering the hills. Road in good condition and easy on/off the hwy.

Thanks to all for the great reviews…you were right!! We have a 45’ class A and toad - and we pulled in before sunset and took the 2nd spot. Someone was in first pull thru. About 1/3 mile further in there was a very small loop we were able to back into after unhooking our toad. Saw 2 burros and the Joshua trees all over. The roads were ... more

Can’t wait to take a long walk in the morning. Smells so good and fresh and clean out here….love it!!

This is a place of scenic beauty. We camped surrounded by Joshua Trees with wild horses and burros in the distance. We didn’t go to the gem area or into town but both seem like interesting places. There was a storm at night and it was rainy and super windy but the road was perfectly fine when we left in the morning.

The turn-off isn’t marked. Both Apple and Google maps show the turn south of the actual road. The entrance is directly across the highway from a paved road going east. The only clear marking is a hand-painted sign that says “Gemfield Open”. The gravel road is pretty well maintained, with some washboard in places. We wouldn’t have “explored” the route towing our 35’ 5th Wheel without having read the previous reviews, as one is committed-no turnarounds until the first pull-through about a mile up the road. If that’s occupied… The next turnaround is about another mile up and is more of a big round circle, with a fire ring in the middle. Due to our late arrival we were unable to hike to the end of the road. Quiet, beautiful Joshua trees and donkeys. What’s not to like? Excellent ATT.

Three boondocking areas on Gemfield Rd. 1st is pull thru which seemed a bit small and I level for our 42’ fifth wheel. The 2nd and 3rd are large open flat areas. Easy park, camp and turn around access. Could possibly fit 2-3 rigs easy. Road to 3rd would have been a bit more challenging for a rig our size but doable. Gemfield is a ... more

Love seeing the donkeys. The wind gusts were pretty strong.

I took the first pull through spot that Campendium's coordinates bring you to. It's a mildly waited road, but no problems. If you were traveling together two or three could fit in that giant pull out. I did not venture further up the road but about a half mile up I could see a few more RVs. If you were traveling together two or three could fit in that giant pull out. I did not venture further up the road but about a half mile up I could see a few more RVs. It's a very quiet place which makes it great fun to listen to the donkeys , or probably they are burros , that roam the area. A few miles south of here is town of Gemfield and the International Car Forest. I had an entertaining ride around there with my EBike. Lots of great pictures.

We stayed here based on previous reviews. We are in a 32 foot fifth wheel and a 4x4 crew cab long bed. We fit fine and were able to make essentially a U turn to leave the spot. There was little road noise, nearest neighbor was about 1/2 mile away. The local walking and Burros were plenty of entertainment for us. We had excellent speeds for both Verizon and T-Mobile, we could stream videos and upload photos. The only bummer was how much trash we picked up so close to the site. I wish others would pick up after themselves. There were ancient cans and new plastic bottles out there. We got a full kitchen sized bag full in about an hour effort. We would stay here again. We did go up to the mine, on the way there are 2 other sites that we could fit, and numerous places for a truck camper on van.
