Colorado has some of the best state parks at really affordable prices. Where else can you get this kind of space with FHU for $35/night?
The only downside was the area around the park was just kind of dumpy and run down. Grand Junction itself has an ok downtown with some restaurants but there's not a lot else going on here. The Fruita area itself isn't great.
So while I would love to pick this park up and put it in a nicer town, that's not possible.

We have come to love camping in state parks. This park fits the bill of our now high expectations. Reasonable cost ($30 for electric & water + State Park fees), good layout with nice privacy, clean facilities (laundry, bathrooms, Rec rooms) and easy access.
It’s about 15 minutes from Main Street in Grand Junction and very close to groceries, gas and restaurants. It is right off a main highway and has some ambient road noise but the biggest disturbance is the trains that come by around 11pm and blare the horns. We experienced it both nights, but after that... peaceful. We enjoyed the stars one night, but the glowing Taco Bell sign across the street was a little imposing. All good. The park is right at the bottom of the foothills to Colorado National Monument... less than 3 miles to the entrance station. It’s also right along the River Trail for cycling and walking/running.
Each site is paved and level with a large gravel area with a shaded structure, picnic bench and fire pit. The roads are wide and very easy to navigate to your site. It’s a popular park for camping, so make reservations.

We enjoyed staying here! The bike trails start at the campsite and go for miles and miles along the river or you can bike to the fruita community center from the campground with their pools, library etc. The facilities were clean and well cared for. We booked a float Trip down the Colorado River with Rimrock Adventures. My only complaint was the mosquitoes were horrible. People said this was abnormal for this area. It would have gotten 5 if it wasn’t for the mosquitoes.

I’ve stayed here 4 times and love the fact that the sites are well spaced and well maintained. One of my favorite places. Close to town, mtb and hiking trails. Sites have water which is unusual in CO. And this year the showers are free!
BUT!!! the sprinklers for some reason come on daily, sometimes twice a day. Not so bad until it creates a fricking mosquito breeding ground. Never seen it like this until this year. Suggested to the powers that be maybe shut them off for a few days? Not our fault. Wasn’t a problem until it rained? So the sprinklers are helping? Miserable stay this year. Bring your DEET.

We did not hear any noise as we ran the AC. It was 100 degrees at 2:30. This is a reservation only park and we got the last site.

Stayed here while passing through. There is shade and pull through spots around the area. No matter where you face, you can turn your chairs to face the base of the Colorado river. Took the dog for a nice run on a paved path along the river as well.
Quiet area right off the 70. Very clean. Showers are still closed.

The sites are not that spacious, in fact, I can’t help but suspect that all the positive reviews are plants.
Giving it two stars because the park is nice and the staff seem friendly, but I’d relegate this to a day use visit. if you’re seeking some solace and quiet in the outdoors, you will absolutely find it...when you get home.

The James M Robb-Colorado River State Park was a wonderful spot to stop after a long day on the road! Our pull-through site was nice, level and featured a covered picnic area, a raked gravel common area, metal fire-pit and 50A FHU! Staff was very friendly and everything was spotless!

Great views. Lake and river. Sites level and paved. Full hookups and less offered. We took a electric only because they were shutting the water off for cold weather forecast. Bad part was restrooms and showers. Unheated, not very clean, and 4 quarters for 4 mins of water. 1st minute is cold.
