Check with the BLM - Bishop field office - for exact areas if you don't have a book that shows them - here's a quote: "Within the Bishop Field Office, Poleta is the only open riding area. The remainder of the Field Office is designated as limited use, where vehicle use is limited to established roads and trails and off-route travel is strictly prohibited". Be aware there are private lands adjacent where you can not ride. Also note: CA Green Sticker, Red Sticker, OR a California nonresident OHV use permit or be legally registered in another state required for off road travel.

Driving up Whitney Portal Rd from 395, prior to the left turn for Tuttle Creek Campground, you will see on the right hand side dirt roads leading off into some spectacular huge boulders and canyons. There is dispersed camping there. This is area is to a great deal BLM land. It would be good to check with the local BLM office. BLM rules for ATVs or OHVs, are typically, that they my be used on roads only. In other words, no cutting across areas with vegetation...so in the true sense of the word ‘off road’ ... no. Enjoy the ride but show respect. Leave it as beautiful as you found it. It’s that beauty that drew us there.

Yes. Lots of people have their ATVs. Just outside the campground is BLM and the Alabama Hills are all around.

I’m so sorry but can’t say. Not tuned into atv riding but there was a beautiful big visitors center at the main intersection in the main toad who would probably know. Have fun!
