So the directions here are great. However you do not make it to the end, as there is a gate. But there are two spots (one directly right and left before the gate) that you can pull in / back into with plenty of space. The right side has a picnic table.

Great place to stay for a quick overnight.

I did not actually stay here, but I did check it out since there were no prior reviews.

The map location is accurate.

The campground is NOT marked with a sign or anything. You could easily drive past it.

When you pull in there is a site to your left and right. The one on the right has a path leading down to the pond. Would be a good tent site, however you would be very close to the forest road.

The map shows this CG with a short road ending in a loop. There was a barricade blocking off access to the short road. From the looks of it, the road/path is not used much. I would definitely say you aren’t pulling any size camper back there.

My two cents, if you’re on this side of Shawnee NF, head towards Redbud or Oak Point. Both are nice campgrounds. From what I saw today, Teal Pond may only be a two site location…both sites within feet of the road.

Boondocking at Teal Pond in Shawnee National Forest, Illinois - Hacking the Hike

Teal Pond is a forgotten camp site in the Shawnee National Forest While there are two usable spots now, a dozen campsites were once available. The location still proves peaceful and is a reprieve...
