There are three separate areas you can camp. The Eastern one down by the water is not an easy decent for any large vehicle. But its right by the water! The second area furthest south is the most accessable for larger rigs, but there is one low branch during the entrance path that can catch a taller AC unit, I just drove a little off the side of the road to clear it. And large rigs should turn left coming into the circle and camp near the toilets. Low branches will hit larger rigs going to the right. This spot is the most secluded. The final Western spot is great for medium sized vehicles and smaller RV's. Nearly the whole area of the Western camping area is not level, and there is more traffic.

Our spot was very quiet. There were a few people driving loudly in the evening, but still please. There was an outhouse that smelled like weed, but thankful for it still.

Trash, antifreeze bottles. Broken picnic table where we camped by a shelter. Looks like beautiful clean areas if you camp next to the lake. Nice lake, lots of trees, song birds. I would camp here again but pick your spot wisely!

Traffic on dirt road by the campground occasionally. Most all sites hard to level but there are a couple that doable. CG for tenters and small rv’s. One bar for T-Mobil. Pack out your trash. That’s all of the negative but now for the positive. Nice, Peaceful Quiet Off The Beaten Path Getaway. Shady trees with pathways to walks to the beautiful lake about 150 feet from the CG. Covered pavilion for group use with a fireplace. Fire rings scattered about so bring your local wood. Couple of long sites for larger rigs but leveling could be an issue. Good over the air tv reception but satellite may be spotty because of the trees. Starlink could be spotty as well. Curvy paved road almost all the way to the CG. Short dirt road from end of pavement to CG entrance. PLEASE pick up your trash and pack it out to keep this place nice. Would be a shame to spoil it because it is such a nice getaway for locals and for us traveling thru stopping here to visit family. Will DEFINITELY come back.

The lake and the whole land was really peaceful, we arrived at 1am and were alone there. Another car came during the night and some fishermen were there in the morning, but otherwise it was super peaceful.

Large open area with multiple areas for people to camp. Off a dirt road with little traffic and sits above the lake. Public hunting area on other side of road so you may hear gunfire during hunting season fyi. We would stay again as it was a nice area.

We are here July 3-4. There are a few tents and one tent camper. We are in our class B Roadtrek.
The grass is lush at the moment after lots of rain. The pit toilet is OK. There is a group shelter. Maintenance is fair but not bad. The sheriff deputy does an occasional drive-through.

Overall, it’s been better than I had expected from some of the other reviews.
Occasional passing traffic on the adjacent dirt/gravel road, but not much. No one has bothered me or come to talk about duration of stay or anything. But, that could also partly be because of when I’ve been here, both on the days of the week (late Sunday through late afternoon Tuesday) as well as it being December.
Not pristine and perfect, but free and plenty good enough for me and my dog. I’m self contained, so didn’t even go near the toilets.
At least a couple of places a longer rig could park, but it could be a challenge getting here on the paved road with its tight turns. The dirt/gravel roads are straighter and easier to navigate, but they’re rough.
Somewhat standard, albeit unfortunate, bits of trash around. I don’t think the area gets a lot of attention. The one picnic table is pretty rough. I didn’t go in the pavilion, but that might be useful for some.
It’s fairly remote, so it’s been quiet, which has been a pleasant break and part of why I haven’t hustled to get out. There have been a few other people coming and going during the day, but only maybe half a dozen across the two days I’ve spent here. At night, I’ve been the only one.
Being so close to Lawrence (about fifteen miles) makes it a good spot as Lawrence has some cool stuff going on.
My Verizon iPhone has mostly been on one bar in the van, sometimes two. Mostly two outside. My Sprint/T-Mobile hotspot has been showing roaming and has mostly been on two bars. But, they both work. I’ve been able to text, iMessage, Facebook message, get on Instagram, and even did a little low quality video streaming without any real issue.
