Downtown D.C. is less than an hour by car and there is metro service nearby. Nearby sites to be seen include Stephen F. Ungar Hazy Air & Space Museum 25 minutes away near Dulles Airport. This is a spectacular museum with many significant historical artifacts within the collection. The campground is within 16 minutes of Manassas Civil War Battlefield.

The camp spots are OK. Nothing to write home about. The drive-in was sketchy because the road is so narrow and not only are there no shoulders, but the edge of the road is quite eroded. Once you’re in the campground it is well paved. But access to the campground was sketchy.
Would never have camped here if we knew there was a rifle range and clays being shot by shotguns and hand gun range and other assorted shooting opportunities within the campground.
I don’t know if we flinched more or our poor pups 😫

You will want to take it slow driving to the park. Bull Run Post Office Road is narrow, curvy, and has no shoulders. Once you get to the park though, the roads are good. Sites are assigned upon arrival. I would not recommend arriving late as the guy driving around the campground at 9pm found out. Apparently you are just left on your own. We did arrive in the afternoon and were given a pull through site on the main campground road. Anyone with a larger RV or trailer should expect to be given one of these sites. Site preparation and maintenance is clearly not one of their priorities as there was a 4-inch deep tire rut directly in front of the utility pedestal. The utility pedestal is all that separates you from the main campground road. You can expect to have a constant stream of pedestrian and vehicle traffic passing three feet away from your home, including a 30-bicycle peleton that came racing through. You will hear many conversations that you wish you hadn't. The parking/camping pad is a combination of large coarse gravel and dirt/mud. Our pad was huge as were many of the others we saw. There is a decent amount of separation from your neighbors because of the size of the pad, but for the most part the vegetation has been cut back so there is little screening. While it appeared that our site offered some quiet because it bordered a forest, that was not to be. There was a popular hiking/equestrian trail 10 feet into the woods that runs along that side of the campground. There is a shooting range in the park is located adjacent to the campground. If you have dogs that react to gunfire, you probably don't want to stay here. Unfortunately the jets landing and taking off from Dulles airport only temporarily drown out the gunshots.
This is a busy park with lots of amenities and day-use. Apparently cruising through the campground by car, motorcycle, and bicycle is a common pastime of day-trippers. As you might expect there are a lot of large families camped out as well to take advantage of the amenities. It is a noisy park therefore. Surprisingly so even after dark. Among the park amenities are the aforementioned shooting range, a disc golf course, a water park, hiking trails, numerous sports fields and playgrounds, and probably others I did not discover.
The park is conveniently located near Bull Run Battlefield and the Udvar Hazy center. It's also fairly easy to daytrip into DC by using the nearby Metro stations. If that is your goal, this is probably the park for you.

We got a PTFHU site for more than I like to spend because I didn’t feel like dealing with my Rhino to empty the tanks this week. The W/E sites are probably the better way to go if we come here again as the showers are nice. Although the sites are spacious and wooded very few are level. They just roll up and down with the natural terrain of the land. There’s a water park, multiple trails and efficient laundry in this giant park. Grocery stores less than 10 mi away but traffic is heavy so it takes 30 min to get there. Manassas Battlefield 15 min down the road. No WiFi and limited OTA channels. Shooting range noise non stop on the weekends but quiet otherwise.

We followed the signage to the park and took Bull Run Post Office Rd off Lee Hwy. But, then there was a decision point after crossing back over I-66 on whether to turn left at the Shooting Complex sign or go straight. Our RV GPS said turn left, but Waze and Google Maps said go straight so we went straight. This led us straight to the campground where check-in was easy. We then proceeded to pull through site 4 with water & 50 AMP, which was a nice long and spacious site. All the pull through sites along the main road in this area are spacious. There is a really good mix of sites in this large CG from basic tent to FHUs. FHU sites 105, 107, and 117 would be great sites with lots of space into the woods. Most of the uneven numbered sites on that loop are FHUs with most suited for large rigs either as a pull through or really easy parallel to road back-ins. There’s no public Wifi. We got a lot of OTA channels to include the major networks. For phone service, we got 2 bars each on Verizon and AT&T. There is a lot to do at this park to include a disc golf course and water park during summer season. There’s also a camp store that sells some camping supplies; hats, t-shirts, snacks, ice and firewood. This regional park also has a shooting complex that is located near the back of the park. We saw previous reviews complaining about the noise from this shotgun (trap, skeet, & sporting clays) complex. If you are worried about the noise, stay towards the front of the CG where we were and you can hardly hear the range. We enjoyed the multiple marked trails throughout the CG and surrounding area. Interesting that at the bathhouses there was a posting on burn bans until 4:00 PM but this information was not listed on the rules we received at check in? Good base camp to enjoy either the DC area and/or civil war battlefields and historic sites. The campground is tucked deep within Bull Run Park, so you barely hear any road noise. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here during January and February, so not a lot of traffic. We had an electricity-only site and got weekday discounts for our second stay which knocked the price down. Beware of the service charge, entrance fee, and taxes when making a reservation--they add up! We had a pull-through site, so convenient, and pretty close to the bathhouse which they kept running and clean during the winter months. Only one complaint: we did have an issue at the dump-site as we left and multiple park vehicles went by without offering help. As we left, we saw them cleaning up all the lights from the Festival of Lights they have nightly from Thanksgiving to MLK Day, so I guess they had their hands full.

Nice campground that was quiet, only issue was the holiday lights show that required us to use an alternate entry road that was basically like off roading.
8/2021 update: So we stayed here again and got a better sense of things. The first time we stayed the original site they gave us was so unlevel that basically I couldn't level the trailer. Since the campground was mostly empty they let us switch sites with no problems. The second site was level but it was level enough that getting the trailer level wasn't that big a deal. So now that we have returned I feel I can say definitely that there are few really level sites.
This time my wife chose a site that according to the website could handle our 34' trailer as a pull through. Yeah not so much, the entrace to the site had a 75 degree turn caused by erosion and the drainage ditch.
Between that and the trees and posts they have protecting the water and electric we had to back in. And even doing that the only way we could fit into the site was to accept that we wouldn't be putting out the awnings and would need at least 15' of hose.
Drainage and erosion seem to be a major problem at this park. I notice several flooded sites during the heavy rains we received and several places where the edge of the road was crumbling or starting to be undercut.
Our cell signal was decent.
Another tip, they only have one dumpster near the front of the campsites so unless you want to carry or drive your trash up you might want one of the sites close to the store. Another plus those sites are further from the shooting range so the noise isn't as noticeable.
We probably won't stay here again since we discovered Cherry Hill Park, which is more convienent and better maintained. Despite this being a pretty park.

There is one restroom for the whole park with a few showers. Laundry room. When the water park next door is open, I guess there is a pool. A large park adjacent, not terribly scenic, just large lawns.
It's remote from any businesses or stores.
The reservation process, whether online or over the phone, can take quite a while, so set aside 15 minutes or so to complete. There are a lot of added taxes and fees.
