Literally small parking lot with vault toilets. Pull thru spots are long and skinny. No tables, no shade.
Many people walking and driving around because of trailhead parking in the lot.
Reminds me of interstate rest area with small parking lot.

I will start my review by saying there are no amenities outside of a communal water faucet, dishwashing sink, and flush toilets. I will start my review by saying there are no amenities outside of a communal water faucet, dishwashing sink, and flush toilets. But we knew that going in and booked for the proximity to the fantastic hiking. It is a level parking lot 50 feet from the Guadalupe Peak/Devil’s Hall/El Capital trailhead.
We stayed here for 7 days & with our solar setup and water on site, we had no issues being conservative and enjoying the park for that time. There is no dump station on site so we dumped at a Flying J near El Paso when we left. If you’re going north, there are many options for dumping in White’s City/Carlsbad area.
We put our Starlink up on the roof & had fantastic service for working during the week.
Campground host was friendly in our interactions with her. Visitor’s center is a five minute walk away.
30 minutes from Carlsbad Caverns NP.
Overall, this is a hiker’s paradise but not for the crowd who needs full hookups.

Basically a parking lot for RVs . Tent sites are beautiful. Some RV sites have a bit of shade and a picnic table. Unique scenery. Very good hiking . Visitors center helpful . Near Carlsbad Caverns.

We passed through with out 27' camper and full-size truck for a couple of nights in the winter. Exploring this under-the-radar park was our main goal, and we were impressed by what we saw. We passed through with out 27' camper and full-size truck for a couple of nights in the winter. Exploring this under-the-radar park was our main goal, and we were impressed by what we saw. The campground was, well, a parking lot.
A couple of trailheads leave from here, and backpacking is really what it's all about here. Biking wouldn't be much fun, as the only road into this area is SUPER steep and gets fast traffic. Proximity to the visitor's center is probably the biggest plus of this location. There's some decent birding here, if that's something you're into.
Otherwise, it's a cold, windy experience in the winter. Make sure you're ready for higher elevation and the temps that come with it.

When I read that it was described as a parking lot, I went in with pretty low expectations. There are only 6 sites that can accommodate a 30 foot rv. When I read that it was described as a parking lot, I went in with pretty low expectations. There are only 6 sites that can accommodate a 30 foot rv. They say they can accommodate up to 50, I'm not sure how that's possible, but that might feel cramped. Most people here are in tents or have truck campers. The sites are pretty spacious for what it is. Many RV parks are lined up like sardines when you're near a big city. This was not that way, much more spacious than I thought and certainly worthy of at least 4 stars.
Also, most people who had generators only had them on briefly, to recharge their batteries or use their microwave/coffee pot. There were only a handful that had them, and they didn't have them on long. I think most people that come here are hikers and are pretty respectful campers.
The sites seemed pretty level, we only needed one block.
The scenery is gorgeous, you can do all the hikes at this end of the park, including the peak, the highest in Texas. There's no hook ups, but there are bathrooms, and you are sleeping in a National Park!
It is a great location, don't be afraid to come here and enjoy one of the most beautiful areas in the country.

Very basic campground but absolutely fabulous location in the national park. It's a parking lot with several spaces for RVs. Problem is that it's generator city for a few hours every day and it's noisy as a result. I wish they'd limit the rig sizes and maybe just set it up as a no-generator zone.

Yes, it’s a parking lot with no amenities. RVs must come prepared. We stayed two nights in site 33. We were there to hike and the proximity to the trailhead made this “campground” worth it. The sites are unconventional for a campground but the views and trails were the highlights. The rangers in the visitors center were helpful with hiking tips. The sites are next to the regular trailhead parking so there was traffic throughout the day and night. We were never bothered by anyone coming or going. If you want easy access to Guadalupe Peak Trail or the other hikes, it’s worth it. If you have a taller vehicle, just know there are trees along the outside of the lot that hang over the sites. There was a tree on site 33 that would rub our camper roof in the wind.

This is kind of a weird campground for a national park. But the views are great and there aren't a lot of options in this area, so it is still worthwhile. If you are tent camping, it is a set of walk-to sites that are perfect.
If you are camping in a vehicle, including RV, van, 3rd wheel, etc. you are just in an open parking lot right next to another vehicle. I often camp in my Prius so there is less privacy than at a typical campground...if you're in an RV you probably don't mind. And being on pavement it gets hot. This campground-parking-lot is shared with the trailhead so there is a lot of early morning traffic for people summiting Guadalupe Peak. I do however appreciate that they kept this "campground" simple and didn't bulldoze a bunch of desert habitat to make more room for RVs!
Location is great, views are great, nice basic facilities.
Overall, if you know what to expect, it's excellent. If you're looking for a "typical" national park campground, you may be disappointed.
