We went early May 2024 and surprisingly were able to get an electric RV site. There were many available at that time. Note the campground is at about 7000 feet and we got SNOW in May. The showers are at the check in / cafe and they are fine - not fantastic - but fine. The park is great. We would stay again if we were visiting agai... more
We went early May 2024 and surprisingly were able to get an electric RV site. There were many available at that time. Note the campground is at about 7000 feet and we got SNOW in May. The showers are at the check in / cafe and they are fine - not fantastic - but fine. The park is great. We would stay again if we were visiting again but one visit will likely be enough. Be sure to get the ranger led tour booked or the 700 years tour. Both were fantastic and very much worth it.

Morefield campground is a GREAT base camp to explore the park from. My opinion is that $39 dollars for a no frills dry camp site is rather greedy on Aramark's part (the civilian contract holder for the park's services), but they got you if you want to be here. Morefield campground is a GREAT base camp to explore the park from. My opinion is that $39 dollars for a no frills dry camp site is rather greedy on Aramark's part (the civilian contract holder for the park's services), but they got you if you want to be here. Our senior citizens with "the pass" pay half that. What you do get for your money is a fire ring, a picnic table, and flush toilets are spread around the loops. There is no Verizon signal, but I was told that certain toilet houses will have basic 2.4 wifi soon (it's currently April '24, the facilities are not quite up to speed on full services). On the outskirts of the first loop is a concessions area offering gas, a store, a cafe (soon), and SHOWERS! There is also a laundry mat facility.
At the park entrance gate a sign says the campground is 4 miles...just know that most of that mileage is straight up a mountain!
One more comment...don't shrug off the hiking trails out of Morefield. They are outstanding in what each offers for a reward. They really are outstanding.

I made a reservation 3 months in advance, and paid in full for a one night stay, for a dry camping site (FHU sites were full). Nowhere in the online information for Morefield Campground, during the reservation phone call or in confirmation emails was it stated that all dry camping sites are First Come First Choice on sites, even with a reservation. Since no sites are assigned, campers can move sites as they are vacated which results in small units occupying the largest sites, leaving the 20-25 ft sites for those arriving later in the day. We have 57 ft of truck and 5th wheel so I always plan ahead and never choose FCFS campgrounds. We ended up parking alongside the concrete curbs, inches from the fire ring, and extending our slide over the fire ring.
Aramark is a well known hospitality company so when I was not assigned a site in the confirmation email I incorrectly believed they would assign upon check-in, as many private campground businesses do, to optimize occupancy and customer satisfaction. No, they don’t care, they had my money and a no refunds policy if you can’t find a site to park. We watched several large class A rigs drive around and around before heading back toward the camp store perhaps to spend the night in the parking lot. It’s chaos! Due to the length of time to find a spot and set up in a very awkward, unlevel site, we missed the opportunity to see the park - our only reason for selecting this campground!
Access in for a larger unit was also a little nerve wracking. It’s a steep, winding, 2 lane road to climb about 1500 ft of elevation to the campground. Lots of deer on and near the roads in the evening.

We spent 4 days at Morefield over the Labor Day weekend and felt that it was one of the best facilities of all the National Parks we have visited. We spent 4 days at Morefield over the Labor Day weekend and felt that it was one of the best facilities of all the National Parks we have visited. There’s an abundance of dry camping sites that you can drive through and pick from. Electric sites are tougher to get - best to reserve in advance. Restrooms are clean and offer flush toilets. Showers at the camp store complex are clean, hot and free with a shower head like you’d have at home. Convenient laundry facility with reasonable prices. Two dump stations with potable water. Location was great for exploring Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients and Hovenweep. Mesa Verde ranger tours and talks give you a good perspective of the history of Mesa Verde. Three trails to hike from the campground to outstanding views. Overall friendly and helpful staff make this a great camping experience. Senior pass stay is 19.99/night.

We’ve been traveling the US for 5 ms visiting National Parks. Morefield Campground was the most disappointing. The grass hadn’t been mowed in months. It was waist high-even where you were meant to park your RV. In many sites, the fire pit was completely covered up by grass. We were warned about bears and told to keep any food in the bear proof lockers but there were none anywhere. Even the Park was disappointing as 70% of the cave dwellings were closed for repairs. We would probably not stay there again.

And they make it so easy to pick a site and extensions to your stay are a breeze. The campground is within walking distance of 3 different but awesome hikes. One of them is very easy and the other two will give you a work out - but worth the views.

On arrival no full hook up left but once paid you choose your own site. Lets just say good luck with a travel trailer trying to find a site that is long enough ( we are only 20”) and level. But if you are only here for mesa verde it doesn’t matter much about site. FYI. Book tours ahead of time as you won’t get in same day

This is our 3rd stay here, this time we were in Hopi Loop close to the entrance of the loop. This is a dry camping loop so we chose this site to utilize our solar, we were also close to the WiFi repeater. We did use the campground WiFi on occasion but also we’re able to get 1-3 Mgbts on our T-Mobile Hot Spot.
