Overall Rating
The campground is clean. Each campsite is secluded from the next. You can’t see your neighbors. The roads coming in a bit bumpy and dusty. There are several level campsites, but most slope off to the side. Overall a nice campground. We were here in June and the mosquitos are very hungry at dusk.

This campground is basic. No hookups/dry camping. First come first served. Just pick your spot and fill out the tag. When the rangers come by, you can pay them directly cash or card. It was very chill…it’s a bit of a hike to the lake from the campsites, but the lake is great! Good fishing. You can rent canoes and life jackets and other stuff. It was like $20 for a RV and $15 for a tent. I guess the difference pays for the free dump station for the RVs. They give you the code for the dump when you pay to camp. Mosquitoes are crazy though…bring bug spray and coils and everything you can. Would camp here again though! Had a great time.

Had an amazing experience here. There is so much to do for families with little ones. We have a 5, 1, and 4 month old and there was plenty to keep them busy.

Not far from Fairbanks is North Pole, a little town with all the amenities required (laundromat, grocery store, restaurants and fishing/tackle shops, of course!). On the outskirts of North Pole is Chena Lake Recreation Area, a quiet lake perfect for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, SUP, or just enjoying the scenery.
There are two different camping areas: Lake Park and River Park. We stayed in the Lake Park area because the cell signal was much stronger there. When you first enter the Lake Park area, there is a tent area to the right and RV (or just larger sites) area straight ahead. We also visited the River Park area, and it looked nice. Both areas are wooded without views of the water, but within a quick drive. Beware the roads in are gravel and very dusty, so take it slow.
There are no hookups, and you may hear that there is potable water there, but when you arrive, the pumps say that the water should be boiled or treated before it is consumed. We didn't want to put this in our fresh tanks, so we filled up before we arrived. There is a dump station on the way out of the park.
One tip: if you plan on camping more than 5 nights during the course of the year, get an annual camping pass for $100. That's the price of 5 nights, but anything beyond that is free.
