My husband and I went here in the middle of January to go to a bluegrass festival in Blyte and loved it! It is close enough to the highway but far enough out that it is extremely quiet. Beautiful mountains and lots of rock hounds were in the area with all but our campsite taken for long-term folk. The bathroom was the cleanest I have ever experienced in a campground, and Vivien, the host was a peach! Would definitely come here again. I entered $4 per night because it was $40 for a 2 week permit (I know the math isn't correct), but it would not let me enter the details.

Be forewarned that the dirt road leading into the LTVA is washboard and dusty. Very wide and for the most part just another primitive road. There are six miles of this roadway, so be ready for some jaw jarring, earth quake shaking and suspension jiggling on the way in. We did it in our vintage motorcoach, but, once you successfully navigate the dirt road, the camping is excellent! Spacious, level spots with plenty of space to enjoy. We stayed 10 nights, boondocking with no hookups in our vintage class A motorcoach and enjoyed every sunrise and sunset. The Mule Mountains are to the East and the Black Hills are to the West providing awesome views of some beautiful scenery. The vault toilets are first class - very clean and not smelly. There is garbage pickup from your site and non-potable water available from a hand pump and well. The desert library was a nice feature that we enjoyed. There was little to no cell reception for us (Sprint subscribers) and even the Verizon folks camped there barely had one bar. There is a dump station about 3 miles down Wiley Well Road - very clean and convenient. Super nice folks at this camp who have been coming here for years. A fire pit and a picnic table is also at each site. The area abounds in rock hounding opportunities, 4x4 adventures and cool desert trails that travel thru another world.
