“Great view of the Sierra Buttes”

This was our first trailer camping experience here, we have always tent camped. Wild Plum has been a family favorite for many reasons: Great campground hosts, clean facilities, awesome hiking trail, beautiful views, and well placed sites. Most of the sites are under tree canopy, but there is dappled light throughout the day. There are three loops that offer a combination of tent camping and trailer camping. we found loop 1-11 to be less private, sites are a little closer but you have great access to Haypress Creek, loop 12-19 has sites a little more spread out, and you still have decent access to the creek - we have camped in 12, 13 and 19. Site 19 is the best as it sets you apart from the other campers, you're close to the vault toilets and potable water and your camp is right on the creek bank offering you beautiful views of the creek, the trees and the Sierra Buttes. Site 16 also looks great and is a pull-through. The third loop, 20-47 has mostly tent sites, but we did see some smaller trailers parked in the tent only sites along the stream bank. The road into the campground can be a little bumpy, and the roads within the loops are narrow, it took some time and patience to back into our site because of all the trees, but it was well worth it. There is a great 3 mile hiking loop out of the campground that takes you through forest, past a waterfall and along part of the PCT - its pretty easy, our kids march along with us, it takes us about 1.5hrs. Sierra City has a small grocery store, and a couple of restaurants if needed. This is a great campground, we will definitely return again.

“pretty forest service campground right on the river”

It's larger and more crowded than some campgrounds, but it's right along the river and there are good trails accessible from the campground itself, including a section of the PCT.
Nat n Danny would stay here again
