We stayed in the primitive loop, along the stream. Level site, so quiet. We enjoyed walking around the state park area to see the ironworks - lovely trail through the area and back to the campground. The bath house is old but clean.

We arrived in from a long day traveling, went to shower to learn of the horrible conditions in the bath house! Broken faucets, drains, and toilets with no real doors . Then was treated like a child by a ranger saying my electric scooter is not allowed because “it will cause problems “ and actually kids on e bikes are fine wizzing all around ! We don’t have room for bikes and my little scooter is way safer that the others in the park ! Any ways, continue through the park to see all the posted signs for significant trees along the path are mostly unreadable and or the tree cut with only a stump , shops and train are only open weekends . Finally the water valve for our site wouldn’t turn off!!!!

Tannehill Ironworks State Park west of Birmingham, AL. We enjoyed this park for its layout and many amenities. The Campground was set up for no reservations and they assigned us our spot based on our needs. I don’t know if it’s always No Reservation but in late March that was the set up. We got lucky and got a level one that backs onto the babbling brook. Sites are decently laid out but mostly dirt and gravel. No fire ring but a fire pile. We had Lot 202. In Campground 2 the lost sizes were reasonably sized. Campground #1 seemed quite close together. As it’s Friday we tried to arrive earlier to beat spring breakers. Lots of kids on bikes. Beautiful temps in late March. $30 with septic hook up.
Tannehill Ironworks State Park has a nice camp store and plenty of open spaces for the various programs they sponsor throughout the year. A knife forging meet was going on during our stay. There is a small train that runs through the hollow. The engineer told me it’s for kids and adults. We were unable to see the historic buildings but hope our travels bring us this way again as it is a lovely park. Just a few miles from the camp entrance is a Dollar General and a small deli.

We really enjoyed our weekend stay at Tannehill Historical State Park. At $30 per night for full-hookup, it is a good place for an overnight or to spend the week.
The campground boasts three different sections, all of which have there pros and cons. Campground 1 & 2 are FHU, while campground 3 is water and electric only. 1 & 2 appear to be a little more tightly spaced and a little more crowded due to having FHU. Campground 1 & 2 also have multiple water sites on on the creek. I would highly recommend getting there before dark to set up, especially if you have never been before as I would imagine it could get quite confusing and some areas are more difficult backing in.
There are large bathhouses located throughout the campground. While they were somewhat dated, they were very functional and very clean. Each bathhouse also had laundry facilities. They have trails, playgrounds, a train for the kids, a creamery for your sweet tooth and also have a country store with some essentials.
Aside from the campground, the park is filled with historic buildings and things to explore. There are multiple streams that weave in and out the park and there several walking trails to enjoy. We were here two days and didn’t get around to seeing it at all.
The campground is all first come first serve, but I have been told it usually only fills up on trade day weekends. So check the website to see when those days are and I would recommend calling for availability before traveling long distances.
The staff were kind and professional and the park was immaculately clean throughout. Cell reception was spotty at times, depending on location. However we had no problems getting enough signal to stream all weekend. We look forward to our next trip to Tannehill!

I got here at night, just before close. The staff were fantastic, very nice and answered all my questions. They have basic rules, and they don't mess around. You can tell they take pride in what they do. Place is clean. If I HAD to complain about something, its that as a new person at night its a little hard to figure out how to navigate the place. If I had a big rig at night I'd be a little nervous - but in the day you get the idea very quickly.
Best Verizon signal is in Campground 3 close to the bathrooms - but its still marginal at best. If you are a partying crew, this is not the place for you. But outside of that, its a fantastic stop! Budget a few days here, you wont be sorry!

Bathrooms are decent, though the shower stalls could do with some freshening up. Only 2 bars of Verizon 4G LTE was not enough for my hotspot to work well. Well worth a visit and at a reasonable price to boot.

Filled with historic buildings, running creeks and beautiful scenery, this is a good place to park for a few days! The park has a small general store, a creamery to get your ice cream fix, a small train ride, and miles of trails to hike and bike. Some sites are a little close especially the back in sites along the creek. Once a month they have trade days which is apparently a bug deal. We didn’t get to experience that this time. Bigger rigs do pucker up when going down the small road from the interstate as their are many lower lines criss-crossing the road, but are just tall enough.

Very helpful staff, lovely grounds, great spot for families. Convenient pull thru site, decent enough cell signal for hotspot.
We arrived late, stayed only one night. Did not get to see all of the grounds or hike the trails. Will return soon to stay for a few nights and see the whole place.
