We arrived on a Sunday around 4:30 PM which was after the store closed. It closed at 2PM. They called prior to 2PM to state they would be closed and told where I packet would be and it was where it was supposed to be. We appreciated the call!
Campground is easy to navigate and had no issues getting into our site. All hookups were fine. Had some lawn timbers to navigate sewer hose over, but not too much of an issue.
We had site #39 which we believe is the best site there. Very private and good distance from our neighbors. Our living space face the cow pasture, and the back of the camper faced another cow pasture. Awesome sunset views at the back great sunrise from the front.
The cows were not residing at either of the pastures we were next to, though we could see them in another pasture nearby. We had wanted a selfie with cows photo bombing us at our site.
Pool looked nice and was still open, though we did not use it nor did we see anyone else using it. There are some small tent sites.
Bathrooms looked nice and a nice laundry room.
They have WiFi throughout the campground, but we did not use it, mainly because you got a single code that you could use for just one device. We just used our AT&T service which worked fine here.
This is a great location to be your hub while exploring the Shenendoah National Park. Luray is a nice town to explore. We did not do Luray Caverns on this but have in the past and it is worth it.
A lot of the sites are packed in tight. Sites 37 and 38 are awesome buddy sites.
I have a 32’ Travel Trailer and had no issues driving the roads to the campground.

I don’t normally stay at private campgrounds I prefer state and national parks. But my son and his family rented a cabin and asked us to join them. I am so glad we did. Clean, well maintained with all of the amenities that you would need. We had a great view to top it off

Campground was clean and well kept. It seemed to me that the property was a farm at some time because there was not too much vegetation between sites. It did feel private though since there was plenty of room between sites. In the late afternoon the neighbor's cows would come by the fence behind sites 49 and 50. That was a nice experience. Our site #23, was level gravel surface with full hookups. Our TT is about 22 feet so the site length was appropriate for us. Plenty of pull throughs and longer backing sites for bigger rigs. We had an issue with the 30 amp outlet. It was actually installed upside down which made it difficult to plug in. Once I notified the office, they had it corrected within 30 minutes even though it was raining. All my interactions with the staff was positive, they were very helpful. Bathrooms were clean, showers warm with good water pressure. I was actually impressed with the sewage hookup at the sight. The cover worked and the inlet pipe was threaded for a good seal. It seems like all the RV sites have sewage hookup since I didn't see a dump station on the CG map. The CG location is about 20 minutes from the entrance to Shenandoah NP Thornton Gap entrance. Fifteen minutes from Luray Caverns. The town of Luray has a few restaurants but pretty simple fare. You may want to check out Asian Station and Il Vesuvio Restaurants. I would recommend this campground and would visit again.

Being in a valley in the spring, we had a few days where the wind gusted to 40+. We kept the awning stowed away. Cows are everywhere but mostly just part of the scenery. We had the occasional minor smell issue. The WiFi was pretty good. The cell service for AT&T was consistently 3 bars or better. We had great luck with friendly neighbors. It's close to the national park and 10 minutes from downtown Luray, which was lovely. Try the Hawksbill Greenway Park -- along a stream through town, flat and beautiful. Highly recommended!

This was our second time going out although we had been to SSSV once before last year in a rented Class C from Outdoorsy (we hadn't had our Campendium account yet). We enjoyed it so much we knew we wanted to come back and possibly so at least one a year. A former KOA, it's obvious the new owners are putting in time, money and love fixing the campground and sites up and slowly bringing it up to more modern specs. Many of the sites use aging garden bed timbers which are slowly being replaced by new ones as well as regraveling as needed.
The huge dog park was very nice and clean with decently stocked dog bag stands scattered throughout the campground. Our two pups made a lot of friends here, with a gathering of dog lovers and their furry friends down at the park one evening. It was a great way of getting to know more about our fellow nearby campers!
The management and employees were very friendly and accommodating. We even had a couple of Walmart deliveries (out of necessity due to an issue we encountered not related at all to the campground) sent over to the office which they gladly informed us about.
We noticed a brand new WiFi network throughout the park which was excellent (we used our T-Mobile and Verizon hotspots on our phones as backups; excellent signal for both there).
I (Kory) visited nearby Luray Caverns which was extremely cool, albeit a bit pricey. Definitely one of those "once in a lifetime" experiences I'd encourage anyone to check out. The town of Luray itself is very cool, with an active and vibrant downtown consisting of various shops, eateries, coffee shops, a cool used book store we visited and more. There's a paved walking path running alongside the creek downtown where I observed a children's trout fishing tournament the Saturday morning we were there. It's apparent this is very tight knit yet welcoming and friendly community who takes pride in sharing their town with visitors.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at SSSV very much and will certainly be back, perhaps, at least yearly (if their seasonal sites weren't so expensive, we'd probably consider one but will certainly make do with their nightly sites, enough that we even joined their Cosmic Camper loyalty program which paid for itself the annual fee with this trip). We also made great new friends, some of them who live nearby us back home. Being very new to the camping community, we're super thankful and appreciative of our newfound friends!
Breaking down our stars:
Access: Fairly easy to get to off Route 340. Note that the turnoff road is at the bottom of a hill in either direction but the campground signs are clearly marked well ahead of time of turning off. The turnoff road itself is very rural so you'll want to take it easy. The campground will be on the left about a 1/4 mile up the road (if coming off 340).
Location: Super rural, surrounded by scenic and lush farmland, complete with various livestock including cows, sheep and even llamas. The cows are super friendly and will come up to you from the other side of the fence.
Cleanliness: Note there's only one main bathhouse for the entire campground (there is another smaller one down by the yurts below but not for trailer users; there are restroom facilities in the office itself). I would say that it's fairly clean albeit a bit old but it's apparent that the newer management/owner is doing all they can to clean and modernize. There wasn't any shortage of hot water and it appears to be heated nicely during those chillier mornings. There are also a couple of outside fish cleaning stations at both bathhouses for cleaning all the trout you're bound to catch at the small creek running through nearby Luray.
Site Quality: The pull-through site was very nice (#61) with excellent and clean 50 amp power, a clean sewer opening and fairly decent water pressure (although we did notice a fairly significant loss in water pressure as the nearby sites were filling up later in the week; we switched over to our fresh water tank and pump to help offset). Every site has a wood firepit and Adirondack chairs. Most of the sites have concrete patios as well along with gazebos. While our site was very nice, we'd probably opt for one of the outlying sites for better views and turnability (getting out of our site was a slight challenge due to its angle and proximity to a couple of trees).
Noise: Most everyone was very respectful of the quiet hours and even those whom stayed out a bit past were still quiet except for some campfires which didn't bother us in the slightest. It was fun waking up to the nearby farm sounds. Lots of bird signing too. I use a cool app called Merlin which detects various bird tunes and songs. It was going nuts picking them all up!

Wow, what a view! Sunset over the mountains from our campsite each evening. Who could ask for more?
The campground is close to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive as well as Luray Caverns and a few smaller tourist attractions including the Luray Zoo and Bear Mountain Zip-lines. They have a clean pool and playground for little kids. The nearby dairy cow farm is fun too.
You can tell the new owners are making some upgrades including improving the utilities and adding wi-fi.
The drive in requires about 25-miles through the roller coaster of steep grade (7+%) hills. There’s no way around that, you’re in the mountains. Just be aware and be prepared.
THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:
The best view from a campsite we’ve ever experienced
Less than 20-minutes from Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns
Clean campground
