South Beach State Park isn't too bad, if you can put up with the noise from the fog horn. It was packed with lots of weekenders enjoying the vacation time. It's a rather large campground with kids running around, enjoying the playground, people out BBQ'ing and having a good time. I was able to use my disabled veteran pass to stay here for free, minus a reservation fee. The sites are tight and if it wasn't for the extra space in front of our site, I don't think we'd be able to fit in many spots. The fog horn was the major complaint here. If you can stand the continual noise, it's not a bad place, but frankly after 5 nights, we were happy to leave. We went to go and dump on the way out, and the dump station was closed. We had to find an alternate place a few miles into town to dump.
Starlink gave us 79 down and 23 up. On Verizon phones, we received 3 bars (15/1). With the cell antenna, we received 5 bars (18/2.7). On AT&T with the cell antenna, we had 3 bars (8.9/1.7).

The turnoff off of HWY 101 south bound is well signed but still, it's partially obscured by trees. There is also a right turnoff lane that helps. The campground is far enough off the highway to generally not hear vehicles, except for sirens. I will say that heading north on HWY 101 from the park will be a challenge with towing as there is a lot of traffic in the summer, and visibility around the trees is limited pulling out.
There is a check-in booth where Rangers will give you a blue mirror hung placard, if your site is available. We arrived ~1145 and ours was not. We then went to the Day Use Area, close to the beach where there is a large parking lot. We returned to the booth at 1345 and our site was still occupied by the departing party as they were having some mechanical problems. The very nice Ranger at the booth, Phillip, reassigned us another open site, that was actually better than the site we reserved.
Our campsite was excellent with a full 'backyard' that backed up to trees. We had privacy between us and our neighbor, but some sites have little to none. There was a parking area for additional vehicles to one side of us.
I counted ~72 RV sites greater than or equal to 44 feet. There are many tent sites with no electric, but with potable water at different spigots. The rest rooms and showers are nice, functional, and reasonably clean.
Aside from ~12 sites designated for Camp Hosts, there are no FHUs here. In addition, there is only a single dump station, so, it may take you awhile in line before you are on the road to your next adventure upon departure.
There are trails that lead to the beach and the South Jetty on Yaquina Bay. No place for paddling. But, surfing is nearby at Agate Beach to the north.

The campground is very pleasant; it's far enough from the beach that the wind is reduced and much warmer; but it's around 1/3 of a mile hike to the beach (a bit much for our 14 year old dog.
Showers are will maintained and clean. Staff friendly.

We arrived midday and didn’t yet have a reservation but we were able to create a same day reservation online after we found the spot we wanted. Water and electricity was at the site but gray/black tank pump out is only near park entrance.

Like many Oregon State parks, it's like a small very organized camping city. We had to hop spots because our Class A could not make the cut into the spot we had reserved. I want to make a special thank you for the campers that would not help in the slightest by offering to get up out of their chair to move a vehicle. I appreciate the slack jawed yokel look for sure. Regardless the Oregon rangers cheerfully moved us to a site that worked. Easy walk to the beach through a sea of campers and dogs and playgrounds. Some folks like this style, I mean who doesn't like instant eye contact (even through your windows) right ? Right next to Newport for that tourist experience. Writing this review with blazing with Tmobile 5G 350 M down 50 up. Yikes ! Disabled vet rate was $8 for the reservation tax.

First time camping here in the last week in August 2023. The sites on the inside of each loop are exposed to one another as our site F19 was and are close together. The outside sites on each loop have more shade, more privacy and are much better to camp at. The week we were camping the campground was FULL. So over 350 camp sites were being used. It rained the first 3 days of our camp trip and when we arrived no camp fires were permitted. On the 4th day camp fires were allowed, but we only found out when we stopped a park ranger and asked. They said they would notify all campers about fires but did not. On the 4th day we road our bikes on some trails. This was very nice. On the 4th day W\we also went to the beach via the day use area because each loop access was from a 1/4 of a mile to 1/2 a mile hike to the beach. Very nice beach for sure! Newport was really close and handy to get food and other items. We stopped and ate at the South Beach Fish Market on the south end of Newport. Really great food but costly. We spent $40 for two meals. The campground bathrooms stalls were tight but clean. Showers were hot but some what dirty from all the mud after the rain. The wife said she would camp here again, I'm not so sure I would.

I love that this state park is within walking distance of the coastline, which is clean, beautiful, and not terribly crowded. The sites are VERY close together. It was a challenge to back in my camper, not because I have no backup stills but because the sites are tight. My friends and I were camped bordering the playground and everybody and his dog, brother, sister, and parents felt compelled to parade though our campsites instead of using the sidewalk provided to enter the play area. Even with those issues, I still liked camping here and would be back again.
The dump station has only one site so you might want to leave at a less popular time so you won't have to wait in a long cue. Although my camper has a nice head, the public rest rooms and showers were nice, according to my friends who used them.

This place is nice during off season. I would not stay in the summer unless you like lots of people and dogs. No sewer at site and only one dump station for over 200 RV sites. Nice hiking trails and very close to beach. Very clean and well managed. Some sites are flooded if it’s been raining a lot.
