Hi everyone! Is there a specific route to get here? Which exit to take for rigs over 40’? Please help.
MNDFULLTIMERS asked on 5/11/2022
We have a 49 ft rig. Would this be a problem for the Hurricane Cliffs Campsites?

Waw, to find such high quality, free, and easily accessible camping in such close proximity to a national park is a treat. Found a spot easily, without having to drive too far in, on a good road (slight washboard), around sunset, so it doesn’t really feel that busy here at all! Good Verizon signal too, and in late September it only started to get hot by 11am. There’s no shade, so these spots are mostly for spending the evening and the night. It’s very quiet here at night and the stars are amazing. I did have a critter (mouse?) trying to get into my car on the first night.

Prescanned the area a few days before we checked out of Watchman. Passed the best looking ridge that is marked "NO CAMPING". Found site 37 open. No problem getting the 40+ foot 5er in here. Great views.

If pulling trailer and it looks busy I would suggest you drop trailer like we did by either hwy 59 or hwy 9 entrance area.. lots of room just off the hwy .. that way you are not dragging your unit down some rough azz roads going in..
The weekend was a big mountain bike event.. so not a lot of open sites all up and down the road and the main road SBR was going to be close from 8-2pm.
We drove in looking for something in the 25-36 area.. the road off SBR was a bit rough but not bad..
We started down the next set adn the road was a bunch of dry mud gullies from the last rain and we did not even go down..
the first set of campsite.. 1-12 or so was full so we did not even go down them..
the area is super nice and cell service for tmobile was 5g and att was 50 gig down. :) did not find any OTA TV channel that came in but no biggie with banging cell..

Tried the two previous BLM land prior off of 9 if you were coming From State Road 15 and the roads coming in were awful going in. So glad we found this one thank you God! You do need to drive in a little bit about a mile. But the roads are so much better. Found a great spot not overcrowded very peaceful night.
Thank you BLM: )

Incredible area with fellow Zion travelers and a quick 30 minute drive to the park. I had no problem getting a campground an hour before sunset and there were still 3 more. Not a ton of people coming in and out and I felt very safe camping alone especially with great cell service.

2 stars for the views - incredible, plus 1 star for access - bumpy but not undoable, plus 1 star for size of sites (our 36’ rig would’ve had no issues). Withholding one star because we couldn’t find a spot. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon in mid-October and expected that to be the worst time to arrive and it was. We found nothing open. As an older review stated you must stay in a numbered spot and there are just a handful of actual RV spots in the area, maybe 5-6, the rest are tent spots. But literally no one is out here obeying the rules. There were people camping on privately owned property, in front of signs that said no camping, and RVs of every size taking all the tent spots. We tried 3 different areas of Hurricane Cliffs and it was all full - lesson learned. I might try coming here again some other time but it would only be mid-week.
Note- I’m adding my two cents as a review because before I arrived I wondered how many people tried to find a spot and couldn’t.

We passed all the campsites to the very last one #48. It’s right next to a hill and close to the virgin river. It had no trees around these campsites but not a big deal. The campsites are pretty spaced out except #40-45. You can access the area from either side, RT 9 is shorter but still bumpy. You have access to the virgin river up the road using your vehicle but it’s day use only. Everyone that camped was pretty quiet. We stayed from Tues-Friday. It started to get busy Thursday night as people started to set up camp in undesignated spots and right in front of an already in use campsite. The last campsites you can hear the RT 9 traffic in the morning, but it’s not loud. There is a Quarry along the way but we didn’t see any workers or hear any construction noise. #46-48 we noticed there was very little to no signal with Verizon. I was able to walk up the hill and get service.
