I recommend getting one of the outer sites in the middle loop as they have much more vegetation and privacy. The cheapest $10 sites still look great, just no shelter over the picnic table and far from the restrooms and showers. The $20 sites were at the highest elevation, not much vegetation but the best views. It was hot, but peaceful, and the milky way was really amazing.
A little noise from the highway but not too bad.

An amazing Canyon State Park with a wonderful visitor center… Don’t miss enjoying the history, geology and archaeology presented there. Also the hikes there would be amazing… Although we only had the time to experience a little bit of it.

“The park is open, but not campsites ”
Reviewed 10/16/2020
10/16/2020: the visitor center is open (great exhibit!) and they offer pictograph tours Wednesday-Sunday at 10 and 3. The campsites aren’t open yet and the ranger said her prediction was that they wouldn’t open until early 2021. Still worth a stop!!!
PS: you can’t get to the dumpstation. It’s blocked off. I tried. ;)

The guided tour of the cavern rock paintings was fantastic. Our volunteer guide was a retired Geologist (Tom) and was just superb. He led 8 of us on the 3:00 tour Super Bowl Sunday. The tour is supposed to last 90- minutes, ours ran a little long. It was just under a mile, starting out downhill with steps and hand rails for the steep parts.
There were lots of beautiful cave paintings, fossils, and views.

We stayed here in April 2019 on our way from Big Bend to San Antonio and are glad we did. We booked ahead and were able to select a lovely private electric/water site with awesome views to the SW and into Mexico. The site had a screen of low vegetation that attracted birds, a separate covered picnic table and BBQ. Sites are well spaced and the area of the campground around our site was quiet and very peaceful. We took a late afternoon walk along a well marked trail at the rim of Seminole Canyon and had the whole place to ourselves - it was magnificent. Had we had more time we would have taken the longer (6mi) trail down to the Rio Grande. The park is situated just south of busy Hwy 90 and sites on the northern side of the campground can see traffic and might hear noise. Park Wi-Fi was poor. Also - if you don't have a Texas State Park Pass ($70/yr) there is an extra charge of $4 per person per day.

This park has several hikes into the desert that gave us opportunities for great pictures. There is a guided tour to the pictographs which are in the canyon. Really nice! The park is close to Del Rio, Amistad Reservoir and the Rio Grande-Pecos rivers. Cell service was on the weak side, but useable. This is s a great park for either a day or 2, or a longer stay. We will stay again!
Reminder that Texas state parks charge a daily entrance fee, buy a state park pass and it will save you money.

Arrived late and spring break was on, no place at the inn. Put us in a very rough picnic area which was fine, great views, lots of privacy and the price was steep for boon docking, but fine.

Not close to civilization ( grocery, gas, food) so pack accordingly. Definitely would stay again 😁

Small campground. Our site had a great view of the sunset. We had water nearby, and electric hookup. Dump station was on site too. Bathrooms nice - just standard state park facilities. Sites were close but we didn't feel like we were on top of each other. Fire pit and covered picnic table on site.
Hiking was great, more of a nature walk but lots of gorgeous views of canyons. We walked right down to the start of the hike. Beautiful history here. We did the guided tour and saw ancient petroglyphs which were just crazy cool! Visitors center was much more than I expected. LOTS of history here, so if you plan on taking the tour arrive at least 30 minutes before so that you can see all of this great info.
Everyone we encountered were so nice and helpful.
