There is a ton of sport rock climbing routes throughout the whole area. The is the primary reason people are camping here. Everyone was really respectful & respected quiet hours.
I would recommend talking to some climbers and before you know it I’ll bet you are up on the rock having an amazing time. Do it!

Posted up here for a week of rock climbing. Love that you can walk straight from camp to all the climbing areas. No need to drive anywhere. Super busy on weekends.

We were lucky to find a spot during the week. There were only 4 empty ones, and we arrived early in the afternoon. Clean campground, nice site, and very quiet overnight. Cell service was great. Can’t believe this hidden gem is free!

Boondocking with a 4-door sedan. Would recommend taking highway 247. A friend tried to take a "shortcut" on Google maps and it led to a rock slide with no passage. No signage to the road pathway, just follow Google. The road is fairly bumpy, so just drive slower haha. But once arrived, its kind of hard to believe this place is free. The condition of the facilities (bathroom, camping) was spotless. You're basically nestled in the middle of the Sawtooth Canyon. I would definitely stay here again.

Star gazed on a clear night. Good Verizon connection. 1.5 miles off Hwy247. No signage at turnoff. Used GPS; accurate. Note @16-17 miles south from Barstow. On west side of highway. Info boards on gravel road to campground. There may be a campground on other side of road. Rock climbing mecca.

The other comment we'd make is the rather strange distribution of campsites. Most are in groups of 2 or 3 which would be great if we were camping with a friend but it means you may be a little closer to your neighbor than need be.
The access road is in dire need of grading... I hate washboard!!
Other than these points we had a great time hiking around the hills and watching the rock climbers.

Excellent surrounding rocks to climb and explore. The pit toilets were very clean! These sites cannot be reserved and are first come first serve. Our only complaints are that there is no dumpster and there is a lot of broken glass around the sites.

Defined campsites with firepits, BBQ,and shaded picnic tables in every site. Surrounded by interesting rock formation popular with climbers. Extremely quiet and very clean. Also had pit toilets that were clean and toilet paper provided. Road in has a bit of washboarding but is only 1 1/2 miles on dirt.

Aggravating washboard road leads to limited awesome looking sites full of hipsters and tourists that don’t want to pay to visit. Oh, and also pretend rock climbers. Yucky.
