{Dates Stayed: July 18-Sept 1, 2024}Although this is listed as a US Army base, it is divided into several US Government organizations such as NASA, FBI & ATF. There are exceptions for base access, so it is best to call the MWR for any specifics with regard to staying at the RV Park. There were several long-term tenants who happened to be contractors; however, most of those folks were retired military. Access to the base is typical except the gate times were a bit confusing. Again, best to call the local number for what gate & when. The dates we visited we were instructed to use Gate 8 which was open from 0630 to 2130hrs, all 7 days. Gate 8 is the closest to the RV Park and the easiest to maneuver through. The PX & Commissary are located almost across the street from the RV park (through the woods). Mini-Mart is within walking distance but only has gas no diesel. The streets between the sites were all gravel but all the pull-through concrete sites were super-wide (20ft)and long(60ft). All sites were full HU and level, some grass in-between but no trees. There are miles of walking/jogging/bike paths that are paved on the base. There is a 32-lane bowling alley and Tennessee River boat access. The negatives are that the MWR maintenance contractors don’t seem to do a very thorough job on mowing the grass or taking care of dead trees & tree limbs around the RV park. Huntsville has a lot going for it with the Space Museum, Botanical Gardens the downtown area with Big Spring Park & Von Braun Center and excellent Visitor Information Center and don’t forget the Duck Scavenger Hunt. The Wheeler Natural areas beginning in Decatur & the Cooks Museum are not to be missed. Also, don’t miss the Unclaimed Baggage Store in nearby Scottsboro. There are many other places to visit & enjoy such as Monte Sano Mountain & Burritt Museum.

We had no problem doing the u-turn with our 40' fifth wheel. We followed the signage to the CG and then into pull-through site 21 with FHUs. There was no formal check-in, but our name and stay dates were on the site post. The pads here are huge and the utilities including 50 AMP worked well. We got 3 bars on Verizon and 2 bars on T-Mobile along with a large selection of OTA channels. We could have used satellite as there are no trees near the RV sites. They have a nice fenced dog park plus a shower and laundry facility with 4 machines each costing $1. The WiFi worked well for a CG this size. Use Gate 8 near the commissary and BX versus 9. Gate 8 gives you an easier drive to the campground. Overall we enjoyed our overnight stay.

Campground hosts, Burt and Terri, were awesome. Super social. Wouldn’t want to stay in summer for very long because there is no shade in this campground. Bathrooms were nice, laundry was cheap. Everything always clean. Sites very large and level.
