We took a 25 mile mountain bike tour of the park one of the days, and found fantastic trails. Ensure you get the map app in noted on the park trail maps, as that really helps you find your way around. It has all of the trails on it and shows your position using your phone's GPS. There are a myriad of trails, so it really helps. There is a terrain park on the north side of the park, which is great fun, and I wish we were able to spend more time there. There are sections for every level of rider, something you rarely find. We also visited Monticello one day, which is ~1:20 drive from the park. The bath facilities are very well maintained, however, the shower water could be much warmer. The hosts were very helpful and friendly, and knew our names by our 2nd day.

Showers private and hot so we used those rather than dump tanks with our Rhino cause the dump site was very far away. Lots of trails to access from campground and a water park (not open yet). About 30 min to downtown Richmond and 90 to Williamsburg. No WiFi but able to stream with AT&T.

I can understand why this park is so highly rated. The rangers and volunteers take very good care of it. I can’t imagine how much mowing in the summer and leaf blowing in the fall they must do, it’s very tidy and beautiful! Bathrooms are clean (love the private shower rooms) with lots of hot water.
Each site has electric and a water spigot.
LOTS of space between sites. Some pull through. I like their “buddy sites”: one driveway that splits into three sites.
Paved loops are perfect for scooter and bike riding for kids (or casual adults).
Lots of mountain biking trails for experts (not me).
Beautiful trails and lakes.
Cute office/gift shop/camp store.
Close to Richmond/grocery stores/gas stations.
And cell phone service.
I mean... what else could you ask for?

First outing in our new rig. Perfect spot. Quiet and friendly, but near enough to civilization to allow us to buy the things we needed. Campground was packed on the weekend but nearly empty by Monday morning. Well marked and maintained hiking trails. Don't miss the excellent CCC museum.

Site 63 was back in fairly level lots of privacy. Turned out to be an amazing place with a beautiful lake and amazing trails. Mountain bikers delight but separate trails for hikers to enjoy as well. Great time paddle boarding for the family.l. Have rentals here in season if you don’t want to bring your own. Electric and water. Clean showers and rest rooms. Very nice camp host. Firewood for sale. Just here for a quick weekend getaway, but love the park. The sites are very well spaced and have lots of privacy. Backing into site 84 was a breeze, even in the dark with rain. Will definitely visit again and would recommend.

We scored a cancellation over the Thanksgiving holiday and rolled into a beautifully spaced, well tree'd campground on a Monday afternoon.
While some sites are reservable by site, many are 'choose when you arrive', with reservations guaranteeing you a site, but not a specific site. We chose site 93, a well-spaced back-in near the back of the park that abutted the trail system. Sites are dirt/gravel and offer 15/30/50A, water, a fire pit, and a picnic table. We noted some of the pull-through reservable sites were pretty unlevel.
A dump station and trash receptacles are available near the campground entrance. A laundry facility, with 3 washers and 3 dryers is also available - $1/wash, a $1/dry. Firewood is available for $5/bundle. The camp store was closed for the season.
This is incredibly quiet at night. Campground/nature noise is the only sound during the day.
We thoroughly enjoyed the miles and miles of trails here for running. Others biked or hiked them.
Verizon offered great speeds on LTE - and also offered 5G in this location.

They have 50 amp sites, very well marked. The laundry room was clean and had a great ceiling fan, which I appreciated. The bathrooms were older, but very clean. The lots are a mix of first come first serve and reserved. The ones at the beginning of the loops were really pretty, but a lot were not level, especially for a big rig. There were many further in that were very level and had nice pads with pea gravel and a place set up for a tent or canopy. Nice trees and grassy areas. The store was closed due to Covid. The dump and fresh water fill area was huge and easy access for anyone. The check in time was 4. We arrived at 2 and she didn’t hesitate to let us go in and start looking for a site. Don’t get worried about not getting a site and grab the first one. It’s a really big area and the better sites are further in. We were in site 87 and it was really flat and not too sunny. The internet bandwidth was good on AT&T.
