It appears the FHU sites are handicap accessible. Do you have to have a placard to stay in these spaces?

We stayed here with a little apprehension after looking at pictures. It looked like there was little shade and a lot of dirt. We actually had a nice shade tree. The nice ranger got us a hammock rack for our kids to hang their hammocks. The campground is along the really nice Uncomphgre River which is full of native trout.

Stayed here 3 nights in a travel trailer. Site had some trash and cigarette butts on the ground when we arrived. Site was back-in and barely long enough for trailer and truck. Since our site was closest to the river, we heard little/no road noise, depending on time of day. Cell coverage was very spotty. This campground gets very hot in the middle of day, so be prepared. We had a small path that led down a steep embankment to the river. The dogs loved the river access! Sites were only 30 amp, which I didn't realize til we arrived. My fault for not reading the details of the reservation. Reservoir is a 5-10 minute drive down the highway. You can rent kayaks and paddleboards there during the summer months. Ridgway has a small (but expensive) market 15 minutes away from the campground. Montrose has your full range of stores & restaurants but is a 30 minute drive north of campground. Laundry facility on site. No OTA channels at all. Pretty good spacing between the sites, much better than the parking lot style RV parks in the area. Would stay here again but at a larger site for sure.

We stayed in Loop F at the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk area of Ridgway State Park. There is NOT a Visitor Center at this area that can sell you a State Park pass, so if you need to get your annual pass, you need to stop through the Dutch Charlie area first. Loop F backs up to the highway, so there is highway noise to contend with, especially if you are in one of the sites nearest to the road. Loop G is further in the park and backs up to the river (which is lower, so no sites are directly on the river). The campground has sites for all types of campers, from Class A rigs to tent campers. The sites were full hookups with 50 amp service, water, and sewer. The camper services building was convenient with laundry (we used and it was fast and cheap!). Park Rangers patrol the area pretty regularly (we saw them through the campground several times a day). There are fishing ponds abutting the river with trails surrounding them (good for running) and overall, the campground was very well maintained.
Overall access to the nearby cities (Ridgway, Montrose, Ouray, etc.) was easy and access to full hookups was at a reasonable price, so that’s good!
Regarding cell service, we had no problem connected to AT&T or Verizon - both were strong signals.
Note about the rating - if we were in G loop, probably would have been rated higher as it seems to have a nicer, less wide open feel (and certainly less road noise).

I took pictures of the view from a short walk.
They have coin shows and coin laundry and clean restrooms. I’m giving it a four star because it has no sewer or water. Just electric.

The only thing to be careful of is the number of chipmunks and them getting into your engine compartment. We had that happen and saw many other chipmunks jumping into engines. AT&T coverage was spotty where our site was along the river.

This was our first time to Ridgway State Park. We usually boondock, but we had planned one full-hook-up reserved site for our summer outings. Boy, were we impressed with Ridgway State Park!
It is quiet, extremely well designed and laid out, and we were fortunate enough to have a site with good shade. The temperature was about 91 when we arrived on July 19, so we were grateful for a shady spot. We were also grateful for electric hook up and AC! Some sites have some to no shade, so depending on preference and time of the year, I would recommend factoring that into your plans. The campground is spotless, well kept, secure, and the staff are very friendly. The Camper Services building has nice restrooms and laundry. There are hiking trails, fishing in the Uncompahgre River or fishing pond, and they have walk-in tent sites that are extremely nice, shady and well designed. I was also pleased to note the area is handicap accessible and there is a nice fishing spot designed for those with mobility issues.
This is a very family-friendly campground, and it was nice to see kids riding bikes, scooters, and having fun with their families.
Arrival was friendly and efficient. The Check-In Attendant was very friendly, and had our reservation info right at hand.
This would be a perfect campground to use as base camp for day trips to Ouray, Silverton, Black Canyon National Park and many off-road trips. Montrose is less than 30 miles to the north, and there you'll find a Walmart, Target, and just about anything else you need.
This one is definitely on our "Must Come Back" list!
Enjoy!

We have been traveling full-time for over 4 years, and Ridgway is our favorite state park in the country. There are 3 campgrounds, Pa Co Chu Puk is the only one with full hookups. This campground has beautiful views of the Uncompahgre River. The sites are long and level with a good amount of space between sites. The other 2 campgrounds are 3 miles down the road. Dakota Terraces and Elk Ridge are electric only, but there are water spigots throughout the campgrounds that you can use to fill up your fresh tank. Dakota Terraces is open with little privacy but beautiful views, while Elk Ridge is up on a hill with lots of trees and some privacy between sites. There are beautiful views of the mountains from up on Elk Ridge. We have a 43 ft. 5th wheel and had trouble getting into a pull-thru site on Elk Ridge. Most pull-throughs are long enough, but they have a deep curve in the site making it difficult for a longer rig to get into the site. We had so much trouble getting into site 186 that we ended up getting some help from the camp hosts and park ranger. They were so nice and helpful and I wish I knew their names so I could personally thank each of them. Once we were in the site we loved the view, but with a long rig I would not choose that one again. Instead, there are several back-in sites that are much easier to get into with a big rig. Site 186 was reserved for the weekend so we had to move to 142 which was a back-in and we had no trouble getting into that one; we even had enough room to open the back patio. Ridgway is close to Ouray and Telluride which are great mountain towns to visit. The bike trails at Ridgway are also awesome with some of the most scenic views. If you work remotely like we do and need cell coverage here are the details: Verizon is the only carrier that worked in the Pa Co Chu Puk campground, but the signal is weak. A booster helped though and we had no trouble working from there. Elk Ridge has a great Verizon signal and a pretty good AT&T signal also (we did not need a booster up there). T-Mobile did not work at either campground. Rate does not include the daily entrance fee. We purchased an annual pass since we were planning to stay at several CO state parks.

Fully paved, super level pull through that are over sized. All campgrounds specially spaced apart, so even if this campground was full it wouldn’t bother you. Laundry room is awesome, literally this park ruins all other campgrounds for us. Only thing that would make it heaven would be wi-fi and Sprint cell cocerage. The entire Ridgway State Park system is three parks in one which can be a little confusing and the main part by the reservoirs is very hilly which makes family bike rides difficult. You can bike between the parks if you are an expert mountain biker!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely Colorado state park. The spacious sites are arranged around loops and most are parallel with the road. Sites on the exterior of the loops tended to be a bit more private than ones on the interior of the loops, but all were pretty good. The sites have nice sitting areas with picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. We were in the full hook up Pa-Co-Chu-Puk campground in Loop F. As for the park's other two campgrounds, Elk Ridge and Dakota Terraces, those have more trees and some sites were a bit more private, but they were W/E only and site quality was quite mixed. Check the details of available sites carefully when booking.
The park itself has a number of nice walking trails as well as access to the reservoir and a beach. Additionally, it is located just down the street from the little town of Ridgway, and within very easy distance of Ouray and Telluride. The location offers visitors a nice combination of quiet solitude and access to all the normal conveniences. It was hotter than we expected it to be, so be careful of mid-summer visits if you're not a fan of super warm weather.
Also, be aware of the daily fee Colorado State Parks charge. If you're staying in the system more than 7 days, it is worthwhile to get the annual pass.

Nice pull through and clean sites. If you need cell service or antenna tv, forget it, but it’s well worth it. We loved this place! The only negative thing,I can say about this place, is it’s a pain to pay and check in. If you have cash, you need pay the 24 bucks for camping in one envelope and 7 bucks for the day use in a separate envelope. If you want to pay with credit card, you have to drop be a few miles up the highway to the info center, at a different campground, before 4:30 and pay. The state of Colorado makes paying for a campsite, the hardest part of staying at their campgrounds.
