We stayed here on our way to Yellowstone so while you could do a day trip there we did not. Sites are pull off rather than pull through but we had enough room to park and we didn't feel we were on top of our neighbors. Great 360 mountain views (when the fire haze dissipated). Sites are pull off rather than pull through but we had enough room to park and we didn't feel we were on top of our neighbors. Great 360 mountain views (when the fire haze dissipated). Vault toilets left something to be desired, pretty stinky. Didn't use the pay showers. Potable water spigots throughout CG. Very cute library with a ton of books and movies for sharing. It was quiet while we were there. We opted for an electric rather than our original spot on the water. Very nice park staff at front gate. We drove through Lake Shore CG which is closer to Cody and actually preferred those sites. While you are closer to the road, the sites have beautiful lake views. We spent a day at Heart Mountain, a must see to learn more about the WWII Japanese relocation camp. It is also a beautiful hike up Heart Mountain.

There aren't endless choices for hook ups around this area, but I wish I had understood the convenience, price, location equation better before getting up at 1 am to snag a 14-day advance reservation for sites in this campground (at 1:01 am there were two choices left!). There aren't endless choices for hook ups around this area, but I wish I had understood the convenience, price, location equation better before getting up at 1 am to snag a 14-day advance reservation for sites in this campground (at 1:01 am there were two choices left!). B'c the same site wasn't available both nights, we paid the $8 res fee twice. The overall experience was not worth the trouble or the price, though it is a lovely campground on the way to Yellowstone (where we were NOT headed). The Northfork campground is some 5+ miles up the road from the HQ and the Lake Shore campground, which would be nice if noted on the signage on the road or the website when reserving. This makes it about 18 miles from Cody. A scenic drive, but one I got tired of after doing about 5 times.
The individual shower/restrooms are great esp in COVID times, but having to feed quarters into the muddy floored shower was galling for the near $50 price for a night's stay. Our second night, a private party at an adjacent ranch (which we actually thought was a rental facility of the park, it was so near) had a loud DJ that played til 11 pm, making the Buffalo Bill experience even less appealing.
On the plus side, the big grassy area in the center and the view of the mountains are both lovely. Good water and dump station. 3-4 bars Verizon.

If you’re on RT14 - 16 - 20 west of Cody WY this NORTH FORK of Buffalo Bill State Park (15 miles west of Cody) has 1st come/ 1st serve. Forget the signs that say you must have reservation. (See July 2021 photos that are posted on guard shack) Yep- it’s a dirt field - yet fairly level - and dump with rinse - garbage and potable water... more

Yep- it’s a dirt field - yet fairly level - and dump with rinse - garbage and potable water is included. There isn’t any noise from the road- since traffic after dusk is almost zero. (Yellowstone traffic)
I have 53 foot long rig- and had no issues.
It’s the same price as if you booked a reservation - yet - it’s 1st come / 1st serve.
From the highway you can see the orange cones and will know what is available.

Spent 2 nights here to base for a visit to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West museum. The park had already turned off the water and closed the restrooms (seasonal) but electric was on. Spent 2 nights here to base for a visit to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West museum. The park had already turned off the water and closed the restrooms (seasonal) but electric was on. Beautiful location, very clean, quiet and all sites in the electric served area ate large, level pull throughs. Park is large and the sites are well spaced out. My review would probably be a 5 star but for the seasonal water shut off but I knew that going in. All the USFS campgrounds had been closed the previous month. I was here Oct. 3 &4.

I enjoyed my stay here, and there is an abundance of good sites. However, if it’s early in the day, I recommend going just a little bit further to North Shore Bay campgrounds. Really incredible sites there for the same price (though they’ll be windier).

We were here last year and enjoyed our stay very much. This year we came here to get out of Montana, lots of bad happenings there. Great views here. Good place to regroup and fix minor things. Can get items shipped to the UPS store in Cody. Pay showers but very private and clean. Good hot water.

A good place to stay near Cody. Great views of the surrounding hills and mountains. Windy, but that's how it is in northwest Wyoming. The western edge of Cody itself is approximately 15 minutes to the east of the campground. There are several types of camp sites: Water and electricity, electricity only, no hookups, and tent-only.... more

The western edge of Cody itself is approximately 15 minutes to the east of the campground.
There are several types of camp sites: Water and electricity, electricity only, no hookups, and tent-only. Some sites can be reserved in advance and some are first-come, first-served.
There are three bathroom buildings spread roughly equally through the campground.
There is a dumpsite with potable water near the campground entrance (bi-directional; 2 RVs can use it at once in different directions).

Great easy to access State Park that's clean, quiet and the landscape is amazing!
Sits on the North Fork of the Shoshone River where it meets the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. RV sites are all level pull thrus, easy in and out,have a picnic table and firering. 1st loop has water and electric, these are reservaton only. 2nd loop has electric only, walk in only, 3rd loop is dry camping, walk in only that includes a tent area. There is also a nice lower loop that is dry camping, walk in only. There is also a nice reservable group area with camping sites that have electricity and a large covered pavilion.
Each loop has pit toilets and there is a shower house (fee) across from the host site with 4 large shower rooms with toilet/sink/running water/mirror and electricity, clean and spacious. Each loop has a large green space in the center, spaces are large and spaced well. Firewood was available for a donation. Drinking water is avalilable throughout the park, there is a 2 bay dump station on site and drinking water for filling tanks.
About 20 miles to Cody and about 30 miles to Yellowstone.

This park is well maintained with amazing views! Bathrooms have coin-op showers but they are clean. Firewood provided for a donation!
