Sometimes after 10 hours of driving you just want something off the highway, full hookup and not too expensive. That’s Elk Mountain. If you want to hang out for hours outside your camper enjoying your site, you will be disappointed. We arrived late and left at 7am. It was perfect for our needs.

This is now the Elk Mountain City “campground”. It is a gravel parking lot next to dump of some kind. Full hook ups, but no trees, and right along the “Main Street” which is a highway. Really, truly there must be something better down the road, so just keep going!

Now, this isn’t glamping. It’s a gravel lot with hookups in a little slice of heaven. Beautiful little corner of the earth in a very rural Wyoming. Historic hotel across the street was a plus! The food was good and we were surprised of the options for being so far out!

The look of rusty equipment and Quonset hut workshop alongside this small RV park might seem like a bad sign at first blush, but the town and RV park were safe and quiet. Right from the start, the manager was friendly and hospitable. The town is off the interstate, so it was quiet and we felt safe even though there is no gate or fence.
The town has a small cafe and a museum, and people we met were friendly. The park is located alongside the Medicine Bow River in a very small town.
The sites are simple, level, crushed gravel. No picnic tables or fire rings. For an overnight stay, it had all the important things for us: super quiet, the new electric service, water and sewer access were all in tip-top order.

This park is clean and simple. We backed up to the River but others used the ample pull through. Elk Mountain is above the town and the historic hotel across the street. We were told they have great food! Saratoga Springs and Medicine Bow are nearby. Don’t miss them! No. Gas or groceries seen. Cash only.
