Spot number 34, at the end closest to the day use area, is missing it’s pole - so you’ll have to leave your tag on your windshield when you’re there and put some stuff out to hold your spot if you pull out for a few hours. Also, many of the spots are super wide - wide enough for someone to pull in and park next to their trailer. So don’t be surprised if someone sneaks in and boondocks next to you if there is space to do it. If you want to avoid this you might try parking at an angle.

Great space if you're traveling with dogs and doggie bags provided. We road a bicycles a few times on the paved trail to the end of the spit.

No frills campground, but you cant beat the view. The lot is something left to be desired, it could use some leveling (potholes everywhere). Pay the iron ranger.

This city-run campground is no frills, no-amenities but has great views of the bay and mountains from the many waterfront spots. We arrived around 4pm on a Monday and there were still about 8 waterfront spots available. By evening it looked like all were filled. Campers are pretty close together in this gravel lot, but no worse than the private RV parks in the area. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. AYou can easily walk down to the beach and water right from your site. There are a few porta potties near the check-in kiosk. It is self check-in. The location is great because you are between the town of Homer and the touristy Spit area. Would be a long walk to a dinner spot, but only a 5-10 minute drive in either direction. Our Verizon cell service was strong on ‘extended network LTE.’ Only downside was heavy generator use by some of our neighbors which started at 6am, ran to 11pm and cut into an otherwise peaceful time at the picnic table looking out at the water.

The beach and wildlife are amazing and the water was the warmest I have felt in Alaska. Being right off the highway it can have some auto-noise, but the nights are peaceful enough.
Bring a bunch of firewood, you will want to have fires every night on the beach.

This park has no hookups and is basically a gravel lot, but what makes it a five is the huge rocky beach with sandbars and dunes right in front of your RV, the views of mountains over Cook Inlet, and the eagles, otters and other birds that frequent the beach. And on windy days, the kite boarders come to play. Although I will not leave Alaska for another month or so, I am sure this will be one of my favorite campgrounds, if not the favorite.
But it is a gravel lot, with average spacing between sites. The only "amenities" are port-a-potties. I would only stay here in the front row, right on the beach, and it looked like much of the back row (there are only two) was for tents and a few smaller rigs. There is a bit of road noise, as the road is basically right behind the second row, but there is lots of space between the rows. There are picnic tables, but our site didn't have one (not sure if someone moved it to the day area) but we shared a picnic table with our neighbor as it was in front of the RVs). There are also fire rings on the beach. There is no water nor dump on site, but the city dump is just a couple of minutes drive towards town, and only costs $2.
The location is at the base of the spit, so it is far enough from the shops, restaurants and small boat dock to avoid the congestion that develops there yet it's biking (there is a bike path), walking (a long walk), or a few minutes driving distance from there. It's also really close to the town center, so you have the best of both worlds.
There is lots of space on the beach to walk doggies off-leash. If I return to Homer, this is where I will stay.
