Lead Hill Campground

We stayed around Thanksgiving, and because it was off-season and dry camping only, it was free! Had the campground completely to ourselves, only traffic from the boat launches, and an occasional park walker.
Being it was the dry season, the lake is very receded, which makes it great for rock hunting, and admiring the unique rock formations that have been created.
Saw a couple of road-runners, and a herd of dear would come out every night.
Had the some beautiful sunsets every single night!

Every site has a table, fire-ring and grate, and trash hook. Some of the sites also have a roof over the table, and all the sites seemed to be pretty level.

No complaints!

As mentioned in other reviews, this campground is subject to flooding. It is pretty clear that the flood prone sites are being abandoned and will not be coming back. It is a shame as those, not surprisingly were the waterfront sites. All of the remaining sites, about 15, have quite good water views. Campsites consist of a concrete pad for the RV and a gravel pad for the table and fire ring. They are well maintained and most are spacious. Those sites which are more cramped are the buddy sites with two sites side by side for groups. If you are not in a group, I would stay away from those. The area around the sites consist of mowed grass and mature trees. It is a very park-like setting. As far as amenities, the flooding has limited them. The swimming beach is somewhere underwater, though we have seen many people just wade right out into the lake for a swim. There is a boat ramp within a quarter mile, however most people appear to use a flooded road right at the campground for launching. There is a nice playground for children and plenty of open space for them to play.

I had no electrical issues while at the campground, possibly because we stayed in the area that does not flood. The dump station is problematic however. The entrance apron to it has a severe slope and if your RV is subject to bottoming out, you will have an issue. You may be able to back into the site from the opposite direction as there is no slope on that side.

We booked this site back 3 or 4 weeks ago on Recreation.gov stated it was open and took our money and about 2 hours later we got a email that the site was closed do to flooding we could cancel or wait and see if it open up. It did open up the Monday for we was to arrive on Thursday.
On arrival the was campground hose was very nice to us and the campground we live about a hour away and camp here for years and she was the one I’ve encountered at this campground. It been 20+ years since camped here.
The water is still high but for all the rain we had this year in this area we feel lucky to get site for weekend as I had a function to do on Saturday. I would the add about Bull Shoals lake catches all the water for it self and 3 more lakes on the White River Beaver Table Rock and Teney Como lake so it can hold a lot water so it did not flood the White River valley. The A section is the only part that is open about 20 sites

This would have been a nice place to stay except for the poor management by the hosts. The electrical problems are being worked on right now. Unfortunately about 1/3 of the sites are underwater again and many sites are being worked on to repair the electrical boxes or are blocked off with orange cones because the electrical boxes are not working. Also, there seems to be no system to management of the campsite availability, especially on the two days a week that the camp hosts are off duty. When we arrived there were no hosts on duty so we followed the posted rules and regulations. According to the posting, a site with an orange cone on it was a reserved site, so we choose a site without and went to pay at the fee box. There weren't any envelopes, so we decided we would pay the host in the morning. Just at dusk, as we were fixing dinner, a very angry "host" knocked on our door and told us that someone with reservations was here for our spot and we had to leave. Even though there were plenty of other empty campsites, she told us they were all reserved. Only then did she tell us that the orange cones were blocking off the sites without working electrical boxes and it was obvious that she clueless to the posted rules and regulations posted. Our neighbor, who was local, was even unaware that she was going to be kicking him out in the morning as well for the same reason as us. This was an awful experience we do not wish to revisit and we won't be returning here.

Why this is a 1* instead of 3*...

It stormed the second day we were there. When my boyfriend went out to open our storage bin he was shocked when he touched the metal key to the key socket. When we went went to unplug from the electrical box, we were shocked again. We do have an Electrical Management System and that saved us from frying our RV's electrical system.

We talked to someone on site and he said that the campground was flooded the year prior and that the electricians did a poor job of repairing the electrical system and this wasn't the first problem at the park. The Corps of Engineers ended up refunding our money after we complained. Proceed with caution!

Anyway.

This campground is used by a lot of non-residents on the weekend for boating, swimming and picnicking, so expect a lot more foot traffic on the weekend. There were very few people in the campground during the week.

Sites: This Corps of Engineers park has a mixture of reserve sites and walk in sites. There are several buddy sites (i.e. sites that are connected to other sites) that they won't allow you to stay at unless you are parking with another RV. OK... you could stay at one of these sites, but you'd have to pay for both sites even if you are only using one of them.

Sites are level and have electrical, water and campfire rings. The water access is not located next to the sites and we had to use two lengths of hoses (75' total) in order to get access. They don't actually advertise water on their website, so I considered this to be a bonus after we arrived at the campground.

Oh and make sure to get a waterfront site if you stay here!

Arrival: Attendant on site Wednesday through Sunday. He was very helpful in helping us find a site. There's a self-pay when attendant is not on site.

Restrooms: There is a shower on site, but we didn't use it. You'd definitely want to wear shower shoes if you use the facilities :)

Reception: Verizon service worked well at each site. We were able to stream Netflix and HBO Go here with no problems.

Other things....
--Make sure to get groceries before you arrive. The nearest place is probably in Harrison where there is a Walmart, Aldi and a few other grocery stores. They also have a Home Depot.
--The nearest place to get propane is Harrison RV Village campground
--If there is a tornado, the local sheriff opens up the Diamond City community center for people without shelter. He said that you could bring our dogs in the center.
