We love staying at this park! Especially if we can get a spot in the Piney Shores loop. It is right on the bank of the beautiful Lake Livingston, where we enjoyed great sunsets and watching birds such as seagulls, pelicans, and even a pair of Bald Eagles! Most sites are spacious, level, and shaded. A few of them did have sewer hookups that were slightly uphill. Depending on your rig, some sites may require up to 40 feet of electric cord and/or water and sewer hose. . Although the swimming pool has permanently closed, you can swim, boat, and fish in the lake, as well as hike and bike. You can rent kayaks and stand up paddleboards from https://paddleez.com/ from 6:00AM to 6:00PM. There is a small store on site but it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and every day for lunch. Sign said they would be back in an hour, but it didn't say when they left! Mosquitoes and caterpillars can be an issue depending on the time of year. When we were there the entire Pin Oak loop was closed for renovations and this caused both ends of the Trinity Trace trail to be closed as well. There was also some noise during the week as a dump truck would dump dirt and the a dozer would spread it along the shore of the peninsula. During our hikes we saw one grass snake and 2 water snakes. (non-venomous) It is quiet during the night, and stargazing it excellent. For those rainy days, we were able to get a strong 4G Verizon signal, and could get all TV networks except ABC.

We haven't left yet, a couple more nights to go. Sites are pretty good and level, looks like most of the loops have been renovated recently. Quiet place, good stargazing. Only downside is it's really muggy, probably normal for here though.

Overall, the park was a good one. It was clean and there are a lot of nice lake views and activities to do. The Pin Oak loop needs to be renovated - it's a little cramped.

We had reserved a lakeside site 5 months in advance and it was worth the wait, although most sites here are very pretty with great tree cover. Sites spaced nicely apart. First time to this area of Texas and we were so impressed with the beauty of this park. Our site was a relatively level concrete pad and hookups were trouble free and easy access. Sunsets over the lake in the evening were fantastic! All facilities clean and tidy. Rangers and camp hosts seem to be doing a great job taking care of everything, arriving at each site soon after check out to clean up and remove ashes from fire pits. This is a wonderful place to ride a bike and take your dog. Pool was closed and I’m not sure it has been open in a long time. Kayak rentals apparently seasonal. We hope to return sometime for a longer stay. We are Texas State Park Pass members so we saved the $5 per day person fee, it’s a great deal if you plan to visit more than a couple of parks in one year.

Wow - we really enjoyed this place! If we ever pass through this area again we would definitely like a spot right on the water. We still had gorgeous views of the lake out our window. It was raining most of the time while we were there so we didn't get to explore all the trails but they sure looks neat. One trail connected all of the campgrounds but was too muddy to explore. We did walk all the other campgrounds as well as rode our bike around them. We walked the one trail that was on a boardwalk the whole mile. Walked down to the pier/observation point several times. There was even an archery range at the other end of the campground. Just really cool views everywhere. Lots of people on the weekend! Very fun place!

Arrived early afternoon and was met by a very friendly staff who explained the park sites and the park. Quiet park, clean, trees for shade, soap in bathrooms that had warm showers, friendly staff and the park store had the best ice cream available. There are live bees to watch in a hive, and interesting notes on the trees and the area. We camped with family in two other sites near us and we met the most interesting campers from other states and Canada. The banks are steep and the water deep at the edges so it's best to put a kayak in at the boat ramps. Firewood is available at the entrance. Very nice, clean, wide trails to hike. Would love to return in the spring and summer to see the butterflies. Will camp here again.

I stayed here the first week in November. I paid $28 per night for a premium, lake-side, full hookup site in the Piney Shores area (other areas and hookup levels cost less), plus $5 per day vehicle fee. My campsite was beautifully situated on the lake, shaded by trees, and being the end site, had a large, empty area to one side. The campground was spotlessly clean, like every Texas state park campground I've stayed at. The lake is beautiful, would be great for fishing, and has numerous trails. The park is just a few minutes drive from the town of Livingston, and is a convenient place to stay if you're here as an Escapees member getting your Texas residence. Being November, there were no mosquitoes, but there were flies.

I ran out just long enough to get us hooked up to water and power, then hid in the motorhome for the rest of the stay. I did not use the facilities so I don't know what they were like. There was a lot of standing water as this was just after Hurricane Mathew had rained on the area, so that probably contributed to the mosquito problem. Maybe in winter or under windy conditions this would be nice.

Loved this beautiful park. Its very wooded and we had a great lakeside spot. However, there were millions of caterpillars...literally falling out of the sky (spinning silks from the high trees and dangling down and dropping). The mosquitos were bad also. The interesting thing is...we ended up moving 30 minutes up the lake to the KOA and there are no bugs here. Our neighbors did say the bugs are not always this bad. The lakeside sites are beautiful though and I loved that we could fish from our site and the trees were perfect for hanging a hammock. Note that this park was closing April 1st, for the remainder of the year. Apparently they are renovating. There is a daily $5 charge for every person over 17, unless you buy the annual state park pass for $70 which allows all adults in your vehicle to avoid the $5 per day fee. There is also an extra $4 fee for an extra car, per day. Our site was a tight fit due to the trees being so close to the pad, but we were able to fit in our 37 foot 5th wheel.

This state park has much to offer. A lake with sites that look out to it. Trails of all sorts. A fishing pier with fish cleaning station (fishing is free), a swimming pool (additional fee), and horseback riding (didn't look into that). Sites are a good size. Restrooms and showers are clean.
