Small glitch in checkin was former site holder had neglected to check out @ noon, requiring us to contact the ranger even though we were ready to check in on time, 3:00 pm. But this was a lovely, peaceful stay. Took a day trip up to Yosemite, 2 hours one way. Minimal services close by so be prepared. Bathrooms/showers were older and ok but could have used a 'deep' cleaning. Plenty of hot water. Our site was tucked into a steep bank with views of the lake. Dry and dusty when the wind blows. Verizon and ATT only 1-2 bars but other more open locations were better. Adequate for email and social media. Some curves and turns into and throughout are tight for bigger rigs. Would love to came back and stay longer.

I loved this place. It was out of the way but worth the effort. We only stayed one night to get to our destination. Water and electric at the site. Walking distance to 2 restrooms. It was pouring rain when we arrived, set up, fixed dinner, watched tv and went to bed. Ranger came by next. Orning to collect fees, just as we realized the battery was dead in our toad. He went back and got a booster to help us out. Can’t thank him enough.
There were workers removing the roof of the bath house so it should be all set for next season.

Bathrooms: showers were hot but they could stand to be deep cleaned a bit more.
Lots of walking paths, Kayaking was nice but don’t expect to swim, the water is green with algae but the views make up for it. You can see Sierra national forest in the background.
Madera is 30 minutes away

We stayed here for a few nights before heading to Yosemite. We had a site by the water which was beautiful. We only had electric at our site, but there was a water spigot close by that we were able to use to refill our fresh water tank by connecting two hoses to reach the spigot. Verizon 4G worked well at our site, but it was only 3G in some sections of the park. It seemed like the sites by the water had the best signal. The staff was very friendly. When we checked in we could not fit in the site I had selected online so they let us pick any other available site. Since we were there on weekdays there were plenty of open sites to choose from. Very beautiful and peaceful location to relax for a few days.

Despite calling ahead to let the ranger know I was coming late, I did wait at the locked external gate for a while until an outcoming Sheriff's car let me in and the ranger saw me closer to the camp. He was very accommodating despite my lateness. And locked gate= safety which is nice.
Overall suited my needs, and I would crash here again in passing, if not base out of here. Nice table/shade gazebo per site, but a little to family-picnic-y and barren for my taste. And not close to any main roads either.
