Ok national park campground near the lake but our site was very small, under power lines and across from the bathrooms so we would like to have had a different site. The staff at the check in station had no clue about the campground.

This is my favorite place to stay in Yellowstone. Just like the other no-hookup campgrounds, it's wooded and serene. The difference here is you can wander through the woods and then right down to the lake, where the view is simply breathtaking. The shower facility is well-maintained, and there's a nice laundry that's easy to swing by on the way in or out. Also, you're in easy striking distance of Old Faithful and Lake Village.
We are a family of four traveling in a 33-foot motorhome. Here's what we're looking for: A playground, stuff for the kids to do, somewhere to ride my mountain bike, beautiful scenery, fire rings, plenty of separation between us and neighbors, shaded and private sites, easy to get in and get level, electric hookups, water and dump station on site, clean showers, and not terribly expensive.
From that list, we got most of them. It could have earned the fifth star with a playground and electric hookups. The scenery was truly amazing, and of course the location is unbeatable.
Vacay Wheels would stay here again

We had a terrible check-in experience here. The Xanterra employee didn't realize he was supposed to give us a separate spot for our truck, so when we returned to the office to tell him we didn't fit in our spot he told us to go look at 2 other spots to see if either of those would work for us.
We picked one, unhitched and Brian went back to the office. In the time it took to do that, they gave the site to another camper who were very unhappy to see me sitting in their spot.
They leave to go back to the office, when a Xanterra employee speeds up to our spot and he starts yelling at me for being in the spot.
Long story short, they're untrained and unorganized. Once the campsite situation was worked out, we had a fine stay.
