Overview of Gore Creek Campground
Bear activity has been increasing. For this reason a food storage order is in effect at all developed campgrounds on the Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District, and the Piney Guard Station, Tigiwon Lodge, Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, Homestake Road FSR 703, and Nolan Creek Road. This order requires all food and refuse to be stored in hard-sided vehicles, approved bear-resistant containers, or suspended at least 10 feet clear of the ground at all points and four feet horizontally from any supporting tree or pole.

It was first come first serve. We didn’t have any problems finding a spot. They were spacious. The camp host was great and bathrooms were really clean. It was not free. It was $28.00 which I thought high for no hookups but it was beautiful

Five decades of camping here. Many campsites list bear activity, especially in Colorado. This camp site needs to be clear that bears are here daily and do not back down with bear horns or spray. If you are in a tent, you are likely to be visited by bears that are used to raiding trash in Vail. The camp host didn't seem at all concerned and there was no protocol to assist campers who had an encounter. In fact, I would say she was amused at our alarm. Site 20 where we had half unpacked is quite remote from the other sites. The bear appeared halfway through our unpacking. We discussed with others, one who had many bear encounters but was left in tears from this one because the bear was unusually assertive. We left and lost our money. This campsite is fine for RV's but not safe for tents unless you are able and willing to confront a bear that will stay in your site. Site 20 is also very noisy with freeway noise. Why go camping and have that? If you're in a tent, definitely skip this place. Much prettier spots in more remote areas.

Although close to I-70, the sound of Gore Creek blocks most freeway sound. Sites are small in general and not terribly level, and there are some great tent walk-in sites. Thick vegetation in late June. For our small travel trailer it was perfect. No hookups, but excellent cell service on Verizon - our MiFi was getting 150Mbps. Many sites are well shaded so solar might be tricky. Our cost of $13 per night reflects a pass discount; normal cost is $26 per night. We'll definitely be back.

This campground is in beautiful surroundings with trails and sites right next to the creek. It's dry camping, but the rest stop in nearby Edwards is a great place to dump and fill with potable water, for free. We stopped and filled up once before arriving at the campground. I believe these are first come first served, and when we arrived, the sign said full (and the board said closed) but as soon as we pulled in, the camp host let us know which sites we had to choose from.
Wonderful, friendly camp hosts. Very clean restrooms. Good Verizon signal. Hiking and mountain biking trailheads almost directly from the campground. Apparently a moose walked through our site while we were still sleeping. We missed it, but the camp hosts let us know about it later that morning!

Because Gore Creek campground was closed, we find another place v clise to stop for the night at Head trail parking lot of Deluge Lake Trail & Gore Creek Trail. Is free but you have to self-check at the trail head Locals does not like it but We asked for permission and I think it was ok. See pics w exact location & address.

“Blocked By Snow As Of March 7”
noted 3/7/2024
Drove all the way here and with literally .4 miles to go, the entire road was blocked by piled up snow. So disappointing. Clearly they’re using this area to put the snow somewhere, just sucks they’re blocking access to the site by doing so. And with no warning.
