The various loops ("Areas") in this campground are quite different from each other, which can really affect a review. We stayed in Area 2 in a 40-foot motorhome with tow car. When we booked online the site we picked (#9) was listed as 60 feet long, but our motorhome barely fit on the site and we had to park our tow car diagonally on the grass in front. Our site was also very un-level, but we were able to get mostly level by using a LOT of leveling blocks under our front wheels and jacks. Other sites in Area 2 were extremely sloped, and nothing but a very short travel trailer had even a chance of getting level. The sites were a little cramped for a state park, but more spacious than most commercial campgrounds. Area 1 was much nicer, all the sites were level, most were over 100 feet long, and very spacious. There's also a nice tenting loop and an older looking RV loop near the entrance. With that info out of the way, the campground was very pretty, nicely wooded, yet close to stores, restaurants, and other amenities. It's about a 45 minute drive to downtown Providence. It's a pretty large campground so we found plenty of places to walk our dog. Verizon was fast, AT&T had 2 bars but worked well. Staff was friendly. We'd gladly return, but only if we can get into Area 1 or speak to someone to find out the quality of available sites in Area 2.

This was a nice location for visiting attractions around RI, although we were only there for 2 days just passing through. We did make it over to Newport to hike on the Cliff Walk which was gorgeous. They ask for a lot of documentation when checking in, like copies of all vehicle registrations and pet vaccinations. I haven't been anywhere that needed quite so much information, but just be prepared. Also they do not allow you to use your A/C which I thought was strange, but thankfully it was chilly when we were there anyway. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all worked well there.

Even though we love having a sewer connection, I'm glad we chose to go without, because the Area 4 is a lot prettier and has more privacy than the other areas. It rained during our stay and many of the sites were quite muddy, though ours was not. Some sites are close to the main road and you can hear road noise, but it didn't bother us.
The full-hookups section looks like a nicely manicured RV park, so if you need sewer, it's really not bad, though you will be able to see all of your neighbors.
We saw a ton of bunnies, something that looked like a beaver (twice) and a coyote walk by our site.

This campground has a mixed selection of sites. In Area 1 & 2 you will find freshly paved parking pads with full hook-ups. Some of the sites are tiny and cramped, some are spacious and level, and others are so sloped that no RV or tent would ever be happy there. Area 3 is dry camping for tents, vans and small RVs. Most of the sites here are close together, but a few around the outer edges of the loop offer some privacy and a decent sized sitting area. Finally, Area 4 has sites with electric and water hook-ups. Again, it's a mixed bag with some sites squashed together and others spread apart with trees and shrubs between.
Fortunately, we stayed here in late October when a reservation isn't required and we were able to drive around and see the sites without committing. That's how we ended up in Area 4 where site 154 offered enough space and privacy to keep us happy for our week long stay. Of course, had we bothered to look in the bathrooms before making that decision we might have gone for a full hook-up site. The bathrooms in Area 4 were the most disgusting we have seen in our 4+ years of traveling by RV. I heard a rumor that they were going to be updated soon. That day can't come soon enough!
Despite the mixed quality of the sites and the terrible bathroom, I still think this campground deserves 4 stars. For one it was affordable compared to others in the area, for two, the nice sites are really nice, and best of all, the location can't be beat. Twenty minutes from historic Newport, 10 minutes from Nargannsett, and an easy bike ride to two public beaches. If you want a place to camp near the beaches of Rhode Island, this is a great option - just choose your site carefully.
*For those of your who work from the road like we do, you'll be happy to know that there's a cell tower right next to the campground! We don't have T-Mobile or Sprint, but Verizon and AT&T were blazing fast!

We stayed in a TCTeardrop trailer. Tried to set up my foxwing awning with almost nowhere to stake. The map isnt very helpful and there arent many pictures. Even after we drove around there wasn't a site that would actually let us set up. All of the facilities are old and impersonal. For the same rate ive stayed at much nicer campgrounds in PA. Showers are quarter powered.
If you need somewhere to stay, go for it. Not a huge fan of it however.
