Our second time here in just under a year!! This in one of our favorite overnight stops when crossing Wyoming either east to west on I-80 or north to south when you are heading to the national parks since it's centrally located.
The road in is rough from heavy equipment at the Sinclair Refinery (thus the name of the town) and the harsh Wyoming winters. The speed limit on it is 50 mph, but in our rig going 35 was just right and kept everything from bouncing around to badly.
The campground is free, no registration needed, groomed spots, and a exceptionally clean vault toilet.
No cell service at all, but blazing fast Star Link connection thanks to the amazing night skies of Wyoming.

All of the sites were occupied on a Friday evening except for the group site. The group site wasn't close to level and was largely sitting in a depression. The mosquitos were horrible and swarmed us immediately - I was bitten 3-4 times in the 20 seconds I was outside using the front jack.
AT&T service would have been unusable for remote work at 9mbps down and 0.2 up. T-Mobile was similar at 6/0.4. Speeds were taken with a roof mounted Pepwave MIMO antenna.

There is a river, but would be hard to swim as it’s a steeper drop off. This road is easily navigated in a regular ol sedan. We only stayed a night, but most sites looked appropriate for tents. Some spots looked too small for larger rigs, but possible. My companion was not pleased after seeing a small snake, but I never had any problems. We saw plenty of little prairie dogs. Verizon had no service, but easily could get quickly up the road. About 15 minutes up the road (toward the highway) was “Stinkers,” a gas stop and food joint. Was actually pretty good! Would absolutely stay again!

I really liked the campground though and wished they had signal!
The last part of the road has a lot of potholes so be careful there.

On the drive, we saw deer (in Sinclair in the middle of town LOL) pronghorn antelope, a coyote, rabbits and little critters as well as free roaming cows. Pulling in we were enveloped with mosquitos and maybe grasshoppers? Lots and lots of bugs. We pulled out our gas fire pit hoping it would help and put on long shirts and pants and lots of bug spray. It was still wonderful but you should all be prepared just in case! It’s also worth noting that we didn’t get a site. It was full, but there was a long open spot by the river and we pulled in with our casita and truck and a buddy pulled behind us with her camper van. The STARS were also INCREDIBLE!! Stay up late enough to see them and there will be a lot less bugs ;)

the road in is dirt/gravel, but if you go slow it’s not a big deal, unless you had rain or get rain while there. Try to get there early as it’s first come. Sites are spaced far apart from each but some seemed kind of narrow, at least ours was. If I recall correctly every site had a concrete table and a fire ring. Our table was broken in some areas so we didn’t use it. Plus it was very windy in the afternoon Into evening, around dinner time, so we ate in! Most sites had a view of the river, if they didn’t it was a short walk to it. the ranger drove through to check on things. He stopped and chatted with us as we were taking a walk. We felt safe there even before he came through, but it was reassuring to see him.
They have a enclosed restroom, but the toilet is outhouse style. It was clean, though.
We have a 36 ft fifth wheel and F250

Beautiful. We were even serenaded by a pack of coyotes on top of the mountain. Very enjoyable will definitely stay here again.

There are a few sites that can, and do, accept big rigs (i.e. diesel pushers with a toad). Everything is fairly well graded and packed with gravel. Cell service isn't great and there's not much in the way of hiking. However, if you want quiet, this is it!
