It recommends 4wd, but what about low clearance? I have a low sedan that has AWD, could that make it?

I was a little nervous when the road up here was described as "steep", however I did not find it to be steep. If you've been doing any driving along the coast or Highway 1 or especially if you've gone out towards Ferndale or Petrolia, then I would hesitate to call this steep. Is it uphill? Yes. Are there switchbacks? Yes. Did I ever struggle with the incline at all? No. The drive never felt particularly steep to me, but they may also be because I'm not towing anything and it wasn't wet or slippery. However I can say that if you're in a converted van (Transit, Promaster, etc) then you will probably be perfectly fine in dry conditions. 4wd is not a necessity, my van is only 2wd and I made it with no worries. The road does get a bit rough at points, but just take it slow and you'll be fine (like most rough roads).
The location of the GPS coordinates is very un-level but I had leveling blocks to help me out.
There was decent signal for AT&T and Verizon and plenty of sun for the solar panels.
Some kids came around once revving their vehicles pretty loudly but they only stayed a short time. Some other recreational vehicles came through now and again but were never a bother.
This location is a bit of a drive from anything (mostly because of how slow you have to take the road up and down), but if you're looking for a getaway for a bit this is a nice spot for it. Great views of the lake, stunning sunsets, and beautifully spooky fog depending on the weather.

The site was littered with beer cans, but cleaned up in minutes.
The view was great. Will come back.
Since your with in eye sight of the lake data was good.

Made it up to this spot in a Honda Civic. Road recently graded and in great shape. Breezy at the top and a little dusty. Great view of Clear Lake. Cell service is good.

The view of the lake at night is magical. Plenty of room for the dogs to run. 3 or 4 cars passed each day. The donkey path (road) from the south was very ruff, will leave north for Lucerne hope the down hill run is better.

I drove my 4runner with a 21 foot trailer made it fine. Issues you might have are wind and the road is narrow (1 lane at times). It has some trash also but I cleaned what I could.

I live in Lucerne, the town immediately on the lake shore below the campground. I am asking everyone to please be VERY VERY careful with anything that could start a fire or make sparks. All the little towns along the lake shore are so vulnerable. The wind and embers and speed of past fires, the many household propane tanks, the narrow roads all could create a situation much like the deaths and destruction of Paradise, CA a few years ago. Thank you for your care and consideration.
