Last night (Tuesday night) I was the only one there but someone in an ATV drove by and a truck went down the road. There are 2 porta potties which looked like I was the first one to use. The sites are long enough for a truck and small camper (20 ft) in each. Each site has a picnic table but the only fire pit is down by the porta potties with a couple more picnic tables. There is no trash can so pack out what you pack in.

Lake area notes:
There’s a tiny lake managed by WMA where you’re not allowed to camp (according to the sign) but it provides a great spot to have a picnic. There is one dispersed site up this grassy-road where it appears people come to dump their garbage and party. It was pretty dirty.
There’s a shooting range for those of us who like to shoot! It was not blocked off when I was there.
If you follow the road passed the shooting range, from the map it is labeled 40, there are lots of places to car camp off the road.
I also found this lovely little flat place off the road! It’s lovely here.

It really was nice here. If you are using maps to guide you, it will call the site by another name rather than Chief Cornstalk - ‘pine’ something. The drive in made me doubt there was a camping area was to be found. It’s a narrow, windy road that, depending on what you drive, would be a tight fit meeting an oncoming vehicle. Only one other camper was there.
There is a shooting range nearby so daylight hours could be loud but at night just the crickets and maybe an owl. There is a small lake there as well. The water’s edge has litter from fishermen I’m guessing.
A perfect quit place to stay multiple nights but very limited cell coverage (ATT). Off the beaten path but worth it. 4 stars instead of 5 just for the drive in and back out.

DO NOT follow Google maps directions from WV Rt. 2! This is a very long, one lane, winding, hilly and gravel road in places, the pavement had given way in several places. Use the entrance off US 35, it is still one lane but is paved and only about 4 miles to the campground. No cell service.

“Unable To Get To ”

Too muddy to access maybe in the summer you can try but it would be very bumpy and not sure if it’s allowed. April 3rd, 2022
