Great roads up the mountain side to campground. Great hiking trails around campgrounds.

Great trails, deluxe restrooms, highly developed campsites. Colorado park system seems to pride itself on how much it can "improve" nature, and then be quite happy to charge accordingly. Personally I'd prefer fewer curbs, concrete, and signage over what nature has created. That being said, this place is fancy and the dramatic broadcast of reveille and taps at sun up and sun down, reverberating off the mountainside is kinda awesome.

We enjoyed the large sites, double-lane roads, wildlife, quick access to civilization, and the hiking paths. We would definitely come back.

This is a newer, beautiful park. The sites are all very large and well-spaced. The facilities are immaculate, the staff is friendly, and there are miles of trails in the park. It is the perfect spot for visiting Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, and all of the other recreational areas or city attractions and amenities. The park is situated on a hill that overlooks the city, and the twinkling lights at night are pretty. You can hear reveille played from Fort Carson across the highway from the park in the mornings. There is plenty of OATV.
You will pay for all of that greatness, however, as Colorado State Parks are expensive as state parks go. There is a site price, a reservation fee if you book online, and a daily per-person fee of $8 (which you can mitigate if you get the annual pass, and you should if you plan to stay longer than a week in Colorado state parks during a year.)
During our stay, there was a Bomb Cyclone (record-breaking wind gusts and freezing temps) and the rangers came around ahead of time to be sure everyone was stocked up and ready. The following day, they were out as soon as possible to sand and clear the park roads. It was great service!

While visiting my son at Fort Carson we stopped in at this park to check it out. Was amazed at the size of most of the sites and the space between them. Most had concrete pads like some higher end commercial properties and the facilities look great. Stopped at the visitor’s center to talk to the attendant, she told us that May and June are almost all booked. The lead time to reliably get in the park in the warmer months is too long for us but works for a lot of people.
The night time views of the city below will be beautiful.

It is so close to many tourist sites and to Colorado Springs, Manitou Park and Old Colorado City. We wanted to visit several things while we were here such as Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Florissant Fossil Beds, There are some caves and mines to tour as well- all close by this park. Yes, they charge a $10 reservation fee per reservation (and I happily paid that twice because we extended) but $28 a night for full hook ups in a park that is super clean and the spots are well spaced is worth it to me. There are many hiking trails in the park, there are nice showers, a laundry room, a visitor center and gift shop and lots of deer and wildlife right here in the campground. Rangers drive around multiple times per day and were very friendly and helpful. Firewood bundles are $5 at the visitors center if you need wood.
All I can say is this place worked for us and we loved our time here.

The ranger on duty was friendly. I had a great conversation with him. The whole place was really well put together. Our site was close but not parking lot close to one other spot.
The guests were quiet. Never had a problem.
Ft Carson is across the street and did have some rifle practice going on on Sat AM.

However we HAD to go online to reserve, which added $10 (which is not stated when you begin the reservation process) and then we had to pay $8 for a day use permit. We tried for 2 days to get a site for one night. I think we got the site due to a cancellation. Keep checking the website for availability, we found it changes, especially in the morning. It was a busy park!
So in the end a spendy night, but it is a really nice and relatively new state park. Our site officially was only for a 35' RV, ours is a 38' 5th Wheel. We had checked out the site and we knew there was plenty of room for us, so we said we were 35' when reserving. Most every back-in site did not have obstacles, so you are able to back up and hang over your site. Site 39 was nice, private on each side and a great view towards the city.

Very clean, nicely laid out sites, new buildings, well cared for. Great views and trails right in the campground. Wish we could have stayed longer but the weekend slots were already reserved. We heard that this state park is relatively new and used to be a private ranch.

We stayed for 10 days in total in 2 different spots. You need to check in at the Visitor Center in the off season and at the Camper Services after that.
There's only full hookups available for RVs.
T-Mobile worked well, we were able to work and stream videos without problem.
We arrived late April and we had 1 spot in the Group area which was first-come first-serve. You can only take 3 days at a time. They offer you to renew at the day of you check out before noon. If there's no reservation on the spot. Reservations period begins April 25.
It is busy during the weekend, so it is better to reserve in advance.
28$/night before May 1st, 30$ after May 1st.
The main attraction of the park is hiking and/or mountain biking. There's a lot of trails. It is close to Colorado Springs, so it is very convenient to explore the area.
There's coin operated showers and laundry. There's no shade, but you have a nice view of the Cheyenne Mountain.
The only downside is that we had a neighbour who had a lot of trash on his site during our first 4 days, and no one form the park told him to clean his mess. I think this was an exception because the park is very clean.
