Me and my buddy have been here twice and will probably go again. It is a great camping site we were at #7 it is perfect for Hammock Campers like us because there isn’t a lot of flat ground without roots or rocks. Me and my buddy have been here twice and will probably go again. It is a great camping site we were at #7 it is perfect for Hammock Campers like us because there isn’t a lot of flat ground without roots or rocks. We cooked steak and eggs over the fire we got from the shop n save down the road which has great staff and supplies including the kiln dried firewood we’ve gotten. The road is definitely bumpy and has potholes in it but I’m in a ford focus and could easily go through it. Just be careful especially at night if you’ve never been there, we’ve gotten the same site twice which is awesome so we know what to expect. The most recent time we went was last weekend and it rained most of the time and we set up tarps overhead and had a fire in between our hammocks and the heat melted my hammock and smoked us out but my buddies’ was fine cause mine was cheap😂. But I would definitely recommend this Camping Area it is Amazing.

stayed here for the night of October 1，2021. visited nearby blackwater falls state park，Canaan valley resort state park and Canaan valley national wildlife refuge. The morning view of the Canaan valley is stunning！！

We stayed here about 35 hours. No cars came by at night 3 passed us in total. Not all spots would hold a van or RV but plenty will. It’s very damp and most spots have a fire pit. I like that the spots are far apart. I was able to leave my dog off leash and he was happy to stay close. Close to Thomas, Davis, and black water falls.

Got here late in the afternoon on a Tuesday in July. There were plenty of spots to choose from and actually the two best spots (an alpine spot not far down the road from 32 on you right) and the spot at Red Creek were unoccupied. Hiking was great. Solitude a-plenty. A great dispersed camping area!

Stayed June 11 for a peaceful night with very few other people with the exception of some solo mountain bikers. Beautiful sunset. Nice location for free.

There are no less than seven (7) dispersed campsites along Canaan Loop Road, Forest Road Road 13, and all offer up to free 14 day camping in this unique slice of West Virginia. Visited the dispersed campsites along Canaan Loop Road within the Canaan Mountain Backcountry, Monongahela National Forest in May 2020. There are no less than seven (7) dispersed campsites along Canaan Loop Road, Forest Road Road 13, and all offer up to free 14 day camping in this unique slice of West Virginia. From WV Route 32, the first several campsites are nothing more than a narrow short strip along the forest road with no fire ring. Continuing on, I found four good dispersed campsites with a fire ring, all east of the Pointy Knob Trailhead. The campsites offer a meadow-pine matrix with an alpine feel. This is a popular backpacking and mountain bike area. There are precious few turnaround areas in the form of trailhead parking. As such, Canaan Loop Road is not big rig friendly. Both Verizon and AT&T cellular service was spotty and barely usable for streaming and app connectivity. Water fill and dump station are available for a fee at nearby Blackwater Falls State Park.
